The American athletic-goods giant, which acquired what it describes as hockey's leading manufacturer in 1995, said Thursday it is pleased to have struck a deal with "strategic buyers who have a passion for hockey and are committed to continue to invest in Bauer's long-term growth and brand leadership."
Roustan, through private holding company Roustan Inc., places equity investments primarily in the arena business and aviation industry.
Kohlberg & Co., with offices in New York and California, has invested US$2 billion across six private equity funds.
Bauer, in business since 1927, is said to have developed the first skate with the blade attached to the boot, and it claims a No. 1 position in the hockey market.
Nike did not release specifics Thursday on Bauer's sales and profitability, but CEO Mark Parker said "its team has done an incredible job."
all of a sudden I get the feeling Hockey Giant is gonna be having a sale...

"Bauer is the most coveted hockey brand in the world," said Roustan, who will be chairman of Bauer Hockey.
My personal opinion. I never really liked Bauer after Nike purchased them. Maybe now they will have a different direction and the product will improve.
A bit of my hockey gear is Bauer but it's all from around 96/97 when they were first aquired by Nike but not incorporating anything Nike into the products just yet. Just the way I like it.

about 5 or 6 months ago I bought a pair of Bauer LegPads... got 50% off because there was no nike swoosh... hehe suckers!!1!
My wife is friends wit the guys at Under Armor, and I was telling her to get them to buy it, because I know they want in roads into hockey. I guess that's not gonna happen.

Goal gear is expensive enough as it is. We don't need UA coming in and making things even more expensive.
i didn't really like it when nike bought them either but you must admit their products are one of the best out there technology and performance wise. i honestly don't think bauer could've advanced that much if they were on their own. nike has money...and they have enough money to spend on r&d to get the best products out there. they pushed other companies to develop better products also. we'll see what happens in the future. good luck to this new group.
The problem I heard was that when Nike bought Bauer/Cooper, they didn't retain their design departments, and brought in all new people who didn't know what the hell they were doing. That's what I've heard happened in the goalie division, at least. That's why their gear tended to be hit-or-miss.
As long as the new owners bring in some good hockey minds, I look forward to what they put out in the future.
I was pissed when they purchased Mega and then proceeded to destroy mega..
I loved my Micron Mega Air 90's!
Hell yeah. . .those Mega's were the best pair of skates I ever owned. I'm still looking for something that comes close those. They were the only skate I've ever had that felt perfect the first time I skated on them. I guess the last pair of Bauer Vapors I bought were okay but the Nike's I bought to replace them just never felt right, like the blades weren't centered right. But hey, they look cool, right?
