I recently found out that my base has a team in the local adult league and I am going to play. I haven't played in a long while, but I was decent when I did play and they apparently aren't huge sticklers on skill.
Anyway, I'm looking for some gear that is fairly cheap (junior enlisted salary and all) but will last me a little while. It's a no-hitting league, so it doesn't need to be super tough or anything. I don't have any of my old gear, not that it would fit me anyway, and I haven't been paying attention to gear at all since I played, so I really don't know what to look at.
Nike Bauer's Supreme 50 line looked to be in my price range on epuck.com and hockeymonkey.com, so I was wondering if any of you knew about that or could give me some other suggestions. Also helmets and such, I need everything.
play it again is good for some used stuff. but if they don't have much of a hockey selection, you'll be picking from some dirty old pads. i prefer to buy my pads new. if you look at hockeymonkey and hockey giant, you'll see that they have packages for pads. you're better off going to the store to try them out because who knows what size you are and if the brand/model will even fit you. good luck.
and sometimes even if the league is non-checking/hitting it's better to get some better pads if you can afford it. if you get hurt, how will you work and pay your bills? i'm sure you didn't sign a contract to play in the adult league ;P
The closest Play It Again is pretty far away, and this isn't a big hockey area anyway (middle of Oklahoma) so I'm not too optimistic for going the used route.

+1 for being the military
And yeah, I understand that no hitting doesn't mean no contact, but it does mean less of the heavy contact.
Unless you play aholes who dont care and want it to be a check league, anyway.
Since Im a goalie I havent used them myself to compare, but I have seen teammates/league players with the NikeBauer 50s and 70s and they seem to stand up quite well so its probably a good option for you. If you do order from Hockey Giant or Hockey Monkey anytime soon, keep in mind that they are both based in SoCal and their warehouses are in OC and SD so your shipment will probably be delayed... especially from HG. San Diego is effed up in a serious way.

i wouldn't just say aholes...my biggest injury came from a beginner who took my legs out from under me cause he couldn't stop and control his stick. in games, i'm on sliding on the ice more when i'm playing with noobs. when i'm playing with advanced guys they can usually control themselves. unless they're going so fast and just run me over. then i guess there's nothing you can do about that haha.
i have the supreme 30 shoulders because i didn't want something too bulky. but i had to try on a few different brands first to make sure i got what fit the best. it's hard to buy just off brand and looks because some pads just don't fit right. if you can, try the rbk/jofa pads because they're one of the most protective brands. but if you have your eye on NBH, you can't go wrong with them either.
what size are you? and where are you at? my gf has some equipment that she used a couple of times and can't use anymore since she's in school and forbidden to play.

Spent the past couple nights driving out to the rinks and such around here and talking to people at the pro shops and trying stuff on. I ended up going with:
Supreme 50 skates/shoulders/elbows/shins/gloves
RBK 4K helmet w/ Oakley VR910 visor (required for the league)
CCM 492 Tacks pants/sticks
Plus all the rest I need (tape, socks, mouthguard, etc.) and it came out to $730. I was thinking about 700 total, so the price was right for me.
