Post Wireless Network help?

So i have an HP Pavilion dv100 notebook and my wireless assistant wont turn on. The button next to the keyboard does nothing and the option in the control panel wont turn it on either.

How bad can this be? Should i have someone look at it? I can still get online by connecting the wire from the modem into the comp, but that sucks.

Sounds like a bad NIC. I would go into the BIOS at startup and make sure the wireless NIC is enabled. The next thing you can do is reload the drivers from HP's website and see if that helps. You can also try a BIOS upgrade. These are things tech support will probably have you do before they will repair your laptop if its bad hardware. You can also try opening the plate underneath your laptop and make sure the wireless NIC is securely plugged in if its MiniPCI. It sounds to me though like you will be RMA'ing your laptop.

wow, i dont think i understood anything that you typed there. I just found a circular way of turning on the wireless network adapter. Actually not so much circular. The option that allowed me to turn it back on was shaded like i couldnt select it. I just restarted my comp and then it allowed me to turn it back on.

Thanks for the help. Karma for you.

Any time you get to a point where you're blaming the network card, you better go back and triple check everything else, because it's pretty much NEVER the NIC.

Shutting down and turning on a computer can solve 90% of problems I find.

You've learned a valuable lesson.

try not to trust 3rd-party wireless management software. windows is the first in line to access the thing, might as well use it to take care of it. works great for me. i always avoid installing the linksys and other makers software, its usually bulky, useless, and gets confused.

Have you ever used a broadcom chipset based wireless NIC? They are probably the most common WLAN's out there and the QA sucks. They frequently go bad.
