^ Thanks for the info. I will check out the Sony upconverting dvd player I got from costco for about 3 months at which time I will hopefully have enough $$ for a blue-ray player.
Ugh. I wish you hadn't said that. It pisses me off that people use Costco's liberal policies like that. Like it or not, but it does affect other customers in the price of membership - once a player is returned, Costco eats the loss.
I'd also be very careful - I have a friend who was a borderline criminal when it came to Costco returns. She would be returning stuff every other week, including clothes that she would buy for specific reasons (a coat for a ski trip, etc.) She's buy movies "just to see them", and would have no problem attempting to return something five years after purchasing. Costco pretty much banned her from returning stuff now. So they do monitor this kind of activity.

Well I didn't mean for sure. I meant that if I don't like the player, I'll just return it and use the money from that to upgrade to a blue-ray player from costco as well.

Returning a player because you don't like it is one thing. Using it for three months before deciding you don't like it to conviently purchase another is something different.

Not to preach (and not saying that dgrycan is), but I have to agree. The policy had been murdered over and over again for so many years, they had to change it, and it was not for the best.
For the well-intentioned folks that lost their receipt on a high-ticket item, which is now broken, have to contend with a less-than-consumer-friendly version of what was THEE most consumer friendly return policy.
The return window has been lessened on most electronics, and Costco has joined the "Big Box Stores" in the serving up of extended warranties. They had to do this to not just give folks some kind of piece of mind on that $2000 TV they just bought, but to also circumvent the extra costs they're enduring from floods of returns. (Have you ever seen the piles of TVs around the return desk the day after the Super Bowl?!? It's downright sickening.)
If you're not ready to venture in Bluland, that's cool. Wait to buy anything. If you NEED a DVD player now, then get the cheapest one you can. If you NEED one, but WANT an upscaling player, get one, but sell it/give it away to someone. (Like to your local firefighters.)
I don't mean to blast on you personally, borinka. It's just one of those things that everyone who shops at Costco, Sam's Club, or any other retailer, has to "pay for" via increases in other items that are sold in those stores.
Quite frankly, it sucks.

I understand. All I meant was that I intended to test the upconverting dvd player versus my regular dvd player. If it's not that much of an upgrade, then I would return it. I think that is pretty fair. I didn't mean that I would use it for 3 months and just return it on the 89th day "just because". If I like it, I'll keep it. If I don't, I'll return it and save up for a blue-ray player.

I'm with you. Heck, quite honestly, if I didn't just give one to my Mom, I'd actually just give it you, as long as when you went Blu, you'd "pay it forward."
f*** you guys, i got a 32" Aquos in the bedroom. it's 720p because it's 32". someone gave me a gift certificate to Best Buy for Christmas last year and i used it for an upconverting DVD player because i really couldn't get the most out of a BluRay machine so there was zero need to drop the cash, and hey, free DVD player... although i didn't realize until later that movies on my xBox360 probably look better. then again, i was still terrified about that g'damn ring of death.

DVD, BluRay AND GAMES!!! Amazing.
did you hear something
LOL, you are close by I think. HB, right? I don't really have time for video games and honestly I enjoy my Super Nintendo enough when I get to play it.

p.s. Once you get the BD Player, we will then tempt your with a nice shiny new AVR (and maybe some speakers)..
So after I get that and the blue ray player, are you going to show me how I need to sound-proof all my walls, add a 120" screen and HD projector and get stadium seating installed?

Yeah, HB.
From what I have read, the PS3 may be the best blu-ray player out there. The Cell processor kicks some serious ass.
I actually have a Samsung BD-UP5000. I grabbed it since i needed one player, and I had a Toshiba A2 (which is now in KY). It took 6 months, but Samsung finally updated to bitstream the audio to my new receiver. (Yes, January is No One's XMAS to himself).

only after I get there.
We may start slow, and migrate from an AVR to separates, and maybe dual subs. THEN, we can talk about acoustic treatments and screens!!!

bedroom is too small for anything bigger than a 32". and a 1080p at 32" is just stupid... i got mine on killer sale because Sharp was about to hoodwink a bunch of dumbs***ts into buying the newer 32 version at 1080p.
trust me... if it weren't a space issue, Kat wouid have no problem otherwise. i was going to go 26" but SHE was like "nah, get the bigger one!"
besides, i want one of those Biilybadass receivers like you got first!

We're still at 480i in the bedrooms. I may have to wait until XMAS for HD in the bedrooms, since we are taking 2 trips this summer, and I think the trip to Chicago may be quite expensive.
5 days, try to hit a Cubs game, a Bears game, and the rest of time on Rush St. doing our own pub crawl. We are going with friends. I may never return.
BTW, I am still loving my receiver in case you were looking for a user satisfaction review. When my wife's at work, either XM or the CD's are on. It is awesome.
