I don't know about Dells, but I am running Vista on my Gateway laptop. And if I had the chance to switch to XP on it I would do it in a nanosecond!
I F---ING HATE VISTA!!!!
I have CAD programs that I have to run that are compatible with XP but not Vista. Also I have had problems with my wireless internet setup in my apartment. I tried to set up my wireless print router, and no dice. I have had problems with getting my printer to work as well (bought at the same time as my laptop, but not compatible with Vista).
I have had compatibility issues with people running XP. Its really annoying.
And the DRM thing is lame as well.
Whats even more lame, is when I purchased the laptop (Best Buy) I was told that Gateway didn't make drivers for XP. And If I somehow figured out how to set it up, the warranty would be null and void. So I got strong-armed into this crappy OS.
Damn I hate Vista.

For those with driver problems, you could probably find compatible chipset drivers for your hardware. It may take some tinkering and research, but I doubt there is any hardware you couldnt find a compatible driver for.

Leopard>>>>XP>>>>Vista
Sigh, I have a multiboot workstation with Leopard, and it still sucks ass.

You should have researched whether your CAD program would work with Vista before buying that laptop if it was that important to you.
Silly me for thinking that a program designed for a Microsoft platform would be compatible with a newer version. Y'know, because they have done this before and NEVER HAD AN ISSUE!!
The CAD company said that they wouldn't develop a patch for Vista either. Although, the company also has a student version available online (which I have tried to download 4 times), and there is inevitably a fatal flaw somewhere in the program that does not occur with XP.
The cost of the program waaaaay more than the cost of the computer so buying the software for Vista is not an option. I recently re-setup my old desktop so I could still use the CAD program.
It just sucks ass when I have to save the file in two different formats (i.e. 2004, 2007) so I can work on the file at home and at school.
ahhh... whatever... you guys know how I feel about the opperating system.
Hubby and I got our E1505 from Dell with Vista in Feb and we havn't had a problem..
We also got an external HD for Pics, so that it wouldn't slow down the memory
However, there are some oddities that can be frustrating.
Vista has a compatibility to run applications in XP mode...Right click on the .exe or shortcut and select the run app in XP compatability mode. (This works for some apps but not all.)
Chris have you tried doing this with your CAD apps?
I do love those Mac commercials, and I own one and love it...now if my wife would let me buy the G5 Pro and the 30 inch monitor I would be a happy camper (and out about 5 grand)
