Love that TV. LG really is a good value. Definitely prefer the 37" LG over the comparatively priced 37" Toshiba. I actually sold 3 of those in the month I was working there and one guy came back a few weeks later to buy something else and had rave reviews for it.

Samsung and Sony really are superior to the rest. One way to go on a budget is to get the not-most-recent model on these; while the Bravia may be slightly faster then Sony' previous model, the money you save would be worth it.
Check out Costco for great prices, and check weekly ads every Sunday for Best Buy and Circuit City to see what 42"ers are on sale. Sometimes they go on sale for a steal!

Lucky for me, I have a friend that can get TV's/Electronics through a wholesaler so I just need to find the TV that I like and he'll get it for me.
He got a 50" Plasma 1yr ago for $2100 when it was listed at Best Buy for $3200.

yeah i could've got a deal from a friend too. but i'm just worried about if something goes wrong later down the road. yeah you have the manufacturer warranty for a year. but i picked up the extended warranty so that i can just have them pick up my tv and replace it with a new one if anything happens.
for example, my samsung had some issues with flashes when connecting to certain devices using hdmi. there was a firmware revision that fixed it, but some of the older sets had to have their board replaced. if you're within the warranty (since the tv is only a few months old, it HAS to be) it would be done by the manufacturer whenever they get a chance to it. but if you had the extended warranty like some people did, they just got a new set from their store and problem was resolved. it's just things like that where i think it's worth it to pay a little more. sorry that was off the subject =P
Just remember that Best Buy sometimes backs out of advertised prices calling them "printing errors" or some such crap. Of course if you want to buy the more expensive one, they'll give you a good deal...

If it's printed, they have to give it to you. They can try and back out of it and I guess they can snow some people who aren't willing to argue but as long as it's in ink, they have to honor it.
I just picked this one up for $1249 at Sears, normally $1799.

42" Class (41.6" Diagonal) 1080p Plasma HDTV with Anti-Glare Filter, EZ Sync™ HDAVI Control and Built-in GalleryPlayer®-Capable SD Card Memory Slot
I'm very happy with it, especially for the price.
I'll definitely be exploring Direct TV in the future due to all the HD channels they offer opposed to Time Warner and their lack of HD offerings.

I've been using a 32" Panasonic Viesa 1080i LCD for the last couple of years as i've been waiting for the market to finally decide WTF was going to be the format, lol. Now that 1080p is looking to be the top-dog for the time I can finally get serious about picking a 50" up. I've also been holding off on purchasing the PS3/bluray/movies until I get the tv too.

I picked up a 37" Olevia at target a few months ago with a 3year warranty for about 800ish and it looks awesome with my upscaling dvd player and my buddies PS3.I liked the looks it's all flat black nothing shiny on it and consumer reports rates Olevia's in their size & price range as excellent tv's.
