I know there was pretty much always a current "Which HDTV should I buy" thread going here, cant find it.
Want like a 42 inch flat panel best possible res, of course will want to think about blu ray and ps3... have a cheapo sony surround sound in a box system already...so guess im ok on sound for now.
talk to me oh geniuses of HDTV...What should i buy?
Can i keep the TV itself under 1200?
Ive seen some LG and Samsung 1080p with 3 hdmi inputs for between 12 -14...that look pretty nice.
Anyone know "the place" to get this kind of stuff... i dont want to end up at best buy getting schtooped if theres a better way/place.
Thanks so much in advance...you knowledge and experience is appreciated.

seriously... Ive heard the Vizio's have a good picture for a lower end model, I have so little experience with these things, i have no idea if cheaper is good in this stuff...
Definitely want the highest res i can get so i dont end up buying another tv in a coupl e years cause im behind the mark... i mean...if 1080p is the shizzle...im sure i want 1080p...are these Vizio's at that price rated at "the shizzle"?
I do not recommend Vizio. They are ok, but not great. You really do get what you pay for. For your money, I suggest Samsung. And I always suggest 1080p native resolution. You do need to go to a store and look at the tv ,but don't read too much into comparing sets in the store. You don't know what settings they've used on the floor models. I recommend that you get a model with a matte screen. Glossy ones reflect any light in the room.
I bought mine from Circuit City (on sale of course). Costco is another great place.
Once you've narrowed your search go here...AVS Forum and see what others are saying about that model.
buy a Panasonic 1080p plasma. check out the TH-42PZ80U. i've yet to see an lcd that can match that set's black levels. stay away from vizio imo. you get what you pay for. put a vizio and panny side by side and you'll know why the panasonic blows ANY vizio out of the water. i will say this, though. regardless of what anyone says here (including me!), use your own eyes to judge picture quality. you're the one that has to watch the tv after all.

Costco or Sams dude. Vizio 50" $869....Extremely bright really good TV
bright does not equal good picture quality. they jack up the backlights on lcds to make them look better. once you properly calibrate an lcd, the backlight usually is turned way down.

Plus, if you maintained that level of brightness, you shorten the lifespan of the bulb and the panel.

I'm not saying they are bad. I'm just saying that there are much better choices. They are HD on a budget.
Budget, Yes, I agree. Especially when you can pick up a 50" under 1000. But I've got some news for you as far as the more expensive the better. I've had a Panasonic and a Sony, both above 42 and beloew a 50" and both had issues. The panasonic had 3 issues with turning off, then powering back on. The Sony, which was a first gen type, began to have burn spots after 2 years. It almost looked like Alfred Hitcock on the screen. And keep in mind that these plasmas were not 1K, back then try in the 5K range. So as far as spending alot of money and getting a quality tv. I think it's a crap shoot. But I can say I've had the best expierence with Vizio.
Plasma television technology has come along way in the last ten years - hell, even the last three years. Gone are the days where you need to worry about things like "burn in".

Another part of that "come along way" bit, is that they're very affordable.
