when I play a video on google/youtube, there is no audio coming out of the pc speakers (Yamaha YST series). but on any other sites, including cnn and myspace, the sound comes out just fine.
before you say that the pc might be blocking the audio from gootube, this is not the case since the audio works well through the home stereo system that's hooked up the same way.
here's the usual "has anyone ever had this problem? how can it be resolved?"

I have an issue with certain file types when played with Media Player. The audio plays back really slow. It sounds like if you play an album at the wrong speed. A girls voice will be really low, slow and scary. Like she is drugged out or something. I need to do some research and see if I can figure out which file types are involved.

My thoughts...some of these may seem stupid, but should be asked:
1. You Tube runs on Adobe Flash Player 9 usually. Do you have it installed on your laptop?
2. Is it an older Compaq? Your sound card may not be able to handle newer applications.
3. Try this:
Hardware Acceleration Slider Is Set too High
If the Hardware acceleration slider is not set to None, move the Hardware acceleration slider to a notch closer to None.
To do this in Windows XP, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, and then click Sounds and Audio Devices (or just Sound and Audio Devices in Classic View).
2. Click the Audio tab, and then click the Advanced button under Sound Playback.
3. Click the Performance tab, and then move the Hardware acceleration slider to a notch closer to None.
4. Click OK, and then click OK again.
5. Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.
Just some things to try. Hope something works for you!

Are you sure the "WAVE" on the "master volume" isn't muted or too low? double click the little speaker thingy next to the time on the lower right hand corner of your desk top... I've had that happen to me a few times.
Since the problem seems to be isolated to Flash streaming I can only recommend reinstalling your Flash player plugin through the Adobe website.
Good luck.
This could also do the trick... All I did was choose the largest of the codec packages and don't have to worry about loading several worthless media players when you get them all in one neat little package...
I KNOW this doesn't sound right...but it is a good player...
