They're not really about the high-end exclusive ****. That's kinda why they let you download their album for free. I think they are pretty much going in the opposite direction.

I see your point but with the 5.1 Format bands can really put out a top notch product that has a lot more options for the listener and fan then the same L/R Channel stereo that hasnt changed since the mid 60s.
To give an idea....
I just got the Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun rerelease. It cost 20 bucks or there abouts and came with 3 discs. The First was the new Stereo Remaster Remix. The Second was the 5.1 DVDA that had videos, bonus tracks, as well as the entire original album mix they included specifically so people could compare the old mix vs the new mix. The 3rd disc was a bonus CD of two more unreleased instrumental tracks.
Now if a not so well known band like PT is willing to do this for their fans on an album that released in the late 90s there really is no reason a band with the Artistic Control over their work like Radiohead couldnt do something similar for their album that is brand spanking new. The Stones and Peter Gabriel have all started releasing some of their back catalogs in these formats so for me its baffling to see a band that really is taylor made for 5.1 elect not to use it.
I think its cool Radiohead gave the album away for free, but I cant help but think how great some RadioHead tracks would be in the DVDA or SACD format.

And OP is right, once you listen to DVDA done correctly you will never go back to your standard CD if at all possible. That what makes some so called cutting edge bands decision to not release in this format baffling.

thanks for the info!
The baffling thing for me is that the record industry, in their infinite lack of wisdom, is missing the opportunity to increase CD sales and put a dent into file sharing at the same time. All they need to do is release EVERYTHING in DVDA and include it as a bonus disc in every CD offered. My NIN CD is a flipper disc with regular CD on one side and the DVDA on the other. It also cost $9.99 when it came out.
If you give the consumer that much product (CD, DVDA and packaging) for that price line you'll effectively kick Apple and iTunes in the balls. At the same time you'll coax some people away from torrents because, lets be honest, nobody that downloads music on the internet is going to cue up a 12 hour download for a DVDA disc. Most home theatre DVD systems are DVDA ready so getting this stuff to market will be a piece of cake.

I have a DVDA audio system in my car. Sadly I only have two DVDA discs.
Nine Inch Nails : With Teeth
The Wallflowers : Rebel Sweetheart
Where the hell can I find some more discs? Is there a website available?
For those of you that have not tried DVDA give it a shot. It's pretty damn awesome.
I also have With Teeth on DVDA and it is so freaking amazing..... I wish more bands would release higher fidelity product..... Oh, and I downloaded Ghosts I-IV when it came out, and it allowed me to download it a decent quality as well. The lowest track is at 442 kbps and the highest being 1051 kbps.
