by the time he formed/joined audioslave, his voice was not nearly the same both in power and range as it was back when he was in temple of the dog or soundgarden so that's what i'm basing it off of.
i blame the drugs.
disclaimer: no i'm not implying that you take drugs, i meant the drugs that chris cornell took

I know this is just an opinion survey, but really, I don't think I ever recall KISS being rated at all when it comes to music, let alone overrated.
I have heard lots of bands credit them for influence, but that I think falls more into the "show" than the music.
Just sayin....
Show or not, they are a huge name in the industry. I just don't get them.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE ON TWO THINGS!
Bruce Springsteen - OVERRATED
Tom Petty - UNDERRATED
Tom Petty has so many good songs, I don't have enough fingers and toes to keep count. (Runnin' down a dream is awesome). The only reason I didn't put him, is because he does get a lot of mention.
I don't have any opinion on a band being overratted. If you made it far enough to have fans and a career then good for you. Not gonna judge that.
As for bands that are underrated, I guess that depends on a lot of things. But if I was to impart any one band on these boards I thought people should know about that they may not, it would be Tindersticks. Their songs make my soul ache
props to those with the XTC and Lee Perry suggestions.
Thanks Ges, XTC is on a whole nutha' level. You either grow to LOVE them, or you think they sound like a weird science project.
Their chord changes give me the chills.
Skylarking is my favorite album.
How about............. Faith No More/ Mr. Bungle - UNDERRATED
Coldplay has some really good songs, but they are not the real McCoy!
Al Stewart - UNDERRATED
I can go on and on...........Linkin Park and Papa Roach is absolutely VILE.

Other than Pop, that's the hormones talking. But I do think there is too much stock put into their work. I love them, but sometimes I don't think they're music's cure for cancer like some people make them out to be.

Dare I say I actually don't think Pop is a bad album? To be honest, I think they died creatively as a band after that. It was really the only commercial flop in their entire career thus far, and it happened to be the last time they released something that was outside of the "U2 box", soooo I'm just putting 2 and 2 together there. I feel like wether or not you've liked U2 over the past 10-15 years, everyone can agree that they haven't expanded their sound whatsoever since then.
All in all, I think U2 is both underrated and overrated at the same time, depending on who you're talking to. I can dig their old stuff, but starting with All That You Can't Leave Behind I've just been hoping they'd break up and do something else.

Nah. I'm a MASSIVE FNM fan and feel they are rated just right. They have a strong fan following here in America and overseas they are HUGE and always have been. For here in America, they have that nice borderline of being under the mainstream radar, kinda having the underground vibe without actually being underground.
