This is tough, especially because I'm tired right now, but here are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Overrated:
U2
DMB
Oasis

Underrated:
X
Captain Beefheart & Magic Band
Midnight Oil

Respectfully disagree. Watch Miroir Noir:

Pitchfork: TV

Overrated:
1. MGMT (great album, thanks to Dave Fridmann...terrible live)
2. Late of the Pier (AMAZING album, thanks to Errol Alkan...UNBELIEVABLY ****TY LIVE BAND. I want to beat them up when I watch them try to play music)
3. Throbbing Gristle

Underrated
1. Built to Spill
2. The National
3. Brian Jonestown Massacre

Let me add one more to "underrated." Phoenix. But that's only because the new album hasn't been released yet. It's...quite possibly the best...thing ever made (did I just make them "overrated?" Probably). And they played it to perfection on SNL. They were just an ok band before. But now...
