About This Page: This is a discussion on Media, Movies and Music within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Saw this last night...what a compelling film about Rodney on the ROQ. Its about as tragic as it is celebratory and certainly a very interesting watch.
Anyone else see the
I just watched this on Sunday, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. I knew he discovered a lot of great bands but I didn't realize what an influence he had and how little he has gained for all his work. He is a very interesting guy.

The more I watched the more I wondered if Rodney was a complete genius or a total moron.

I saw it a couple of years ago. Rodney is definitely a legend when it comes to discovering talented bands. I don't care too much for his dry personality, but the music is always good. He hit on a girl I used to date in the early 90's. He had that stupid hair piece he always wears, platform shoes to make him look taller and pasty face. It was very creepy. Cool guy though.
The one guy I really hate is Kim Fowley. The guy is a opportunistic douche bag that only looks after himself. Watch the story of the Runaways and you'll see what a dick he really is.
He tried doing the same thing to my band, back in the day. My singer reminded him of Joan Jett and wanted to exploit her. He wanted $2000 upfront to distribute our demo "cassette" tape in Europe. Then he dropped it to $500. We said no and he told us good luck being construction workers and a waitress.
The guy is bad news.

He really is a mix of the 2!
I like the guy and if you want any stories just go to Canters at 11PM and there he is in the same booth nearly every night.
they even put a plaque there for him , which I think they showed the ceremony in the film
Rodney has some "health" issues but he has never been into heroin.
The guy never drinks anything stronger than ice tea.
The movie is very sad. He's great at finding talented bands but he couldn't figure out a way to make money out of it. Or, maybe, he just doesn't care about money.

I'd really like to see this now, for old times sake. Those old punk compilation albums he did were CLASSIC. In fact.... if anyone's interested, I found Volume 1 (1980) on a blog--ripped from vinyl (they were never released on CD)--with a download link HERE. Listening now, and it sounds even better today than it did---28 YEARS AGO???? GAWD I'm an old ****.
