I'm not patronizing any bloody festival that has the audacity to not consider Wilco or Broken Social Scene as headliners...I mean, who do they want, Elvis?

Headliners have to be big, publicly established and recognized bands. I love Broken Social Scene and respect Wilco, but they by no means have the draw that Rage, NIN or Radiohead have; they're just not in the public spotlight like these 3 are. I see nothing audacious about it. Do you really think that one of Radiohead, Rage or NIN would be billed under BSS or Wilco? There's only three nights...

Oh yeah, too bad bank account, I'm ****ing going!
Those are cash and carry bands now...except for Radiohead.
I mean, when was the last time NIN or RAGE produced anything of value? Lollapalooza is a joke. It was founded on the basis of spotlighting cutting-edge bands, not bands you wanna see because they were cool once and can still sell a ticket.

1. It doesn't matter if they're cash or carry bands, or relevant truly artistic bands; a big, corporate sponsored music festival is a business, not an intellectual taste setter. In their own best interest, they have to put the big names up first because that's who the majority of people are buying tickets for. I do agree with you that it's kinda sad that there's not really any progressive, edgy music festival that was on the scale of when Lolla first came out in 91, but the reality is it went bankrupt (after it started loosing it's relevance anyways) and could only be "revived" (or at least had it's name slapped on another festival) by corporate spending and identity. While I think that's lame, I'd certainly much rather have a festival where I can easily ignore all the corporate ads everywhere that headlines old bands instead of new bands than none at all.
2. When a headlining band with a long, established history and a huge fan base signs up to play a festival, it's in their contract to be billed as headliners. Bands have to constantly try an uphold their "integrity" or their image of being a big b
