Welp, outside of forgetting there is no such thing as 'too much' sunscreen out in the desert, I successfully pulled off the following line up. I'll try to keep reviews brief
Manchester Orchestra- pretty driving music with gobs of distortion. lyrics a little whiney but overall good
Swervedriver- labelmates for My Bloody Valentine. very good stuff and about halfway through their performance they hit a fuzzy, pounding stride that sent waves of distortion over the crowd and forced me to stare intently at my shoes. glad I finally got to see them.
Spiritualized- a little miffed they didn't do Electric Mainlines instead of Acoustic Mainlines for this but then I'm spoiled I guess. speaking of being 'miffed' J Spaceman was having some serious tech problems with his mic and came as close to being pissed off as he is probably capable of, directing his ire at a scrambling soundman. once things settled, it was a magical performance. Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space was especially strong complete with Elvis Lyrics (I can't help.. falling in love..)
Love and Rockets- a loose set but great to see the guys. David J was clearly fishing around in Haunted but Daniel kept it going. Kundalini Express, although not one of my fave songs from them, sounded particularly good tonight. sadly, the band were a little late coming on and I didn't want to miss Roger so I left mid-way through Yin/Yang, which is too bad cause they were nailing that one.
Roger Waters- not sure I can fit a proper review in one short paragraph. I was pretty much blown away. the real surprise for me tonight was how well Roger sang. a little gravely-voiced for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised by how strong his performance was vocally. also a terribly underrated bass player. surely one of the best 'rock' bass players ever. and the show.. well, like I said, tough to fit it here. giant flying pigs, giant flying astronauts, columns of flame that shot 100 ft into the air. and a surround system all around the perimiter of the main stage. when the insane laughing came out from behind me just before Brain Damage I freaked a little. and the end was literally a battlefield of explosions and pyros to rival any grandscale production currently on tour.
also, do not want to leave out that Roger had someone playing violin with him that was, well, again hard to describe. she played and sang a good deal, including a new song from the band. but by far one of the biggest highlights was when she played the opening solo in Comfortably Numb. I had to rub my eyes in disbelief when she played it. never, EVER, would I have thought a violinist could do that. one of the most critical solos of the night, and goddam she hit it out of the park! the whole place erupted and, like the namby pamby I am, I can honestly say I shed a tear, there was so much emotion in it. her name is Lili Haydn. holy.. props to you girl.
Oh well, so much for 'brief'. Was anyone else there??
Man, you just cannot make something like that up! Ya know, that pig made quite a few rounds above the audience and I was wondering "how the heck are they controlling that thing". Answer- they weren't!
that was such a great show. I took about 2 hours of video from his set including all of DSotM and the encores that I will upload in the next couple days, look for the link at the coachella message boards.
Vera/Bring the Boys Back Home litterally brought a tear to my eye, it was so powerful.
as for the projected photo of the radio with an airplane atop it, I guess Roger uses that everywhere he went, so it's not entirely original...
yea, but did they have a ****ing airplane do a flyby and drop leaflets into the crowd (too bad they missed the stage and went into other stages and neighborhoods) while 30 giant searchlights coordinated to the music illuminated it like it was a warzone? it was incredible.

It was as real plane this time, not a projected one. A plane flew over us several times dropping leaflets (to support Obama I think?)
Edit- oops just read a bit futher and saw g0k1ngsg0 posted a response to this already.

I'll be sure to check out your video. What a show, eh? Yea, Vera was powerful. Hard to pick a fave moment really but I was saying before the show that if he just played Vera/Bring the Boys... I'd be happy. But I got more than that... a LOT more!
