If this doesn't get picked up and distributed by SOMEBODY, I'm gonna go ape****.
Even if it does find a home (theatrical is doubtful, though), and it does go before the MPAA, it will need cuts just to get an NC-17, and no distributor will accept that. I'm not sure if a movie has ever been deemed unreleasable (I couldn't find any history of such action, though), but this sounds like a candidate. If a deal IS made, it will most likely take away the director's (assumed) final cut. It may piss him off, but the investors will want SOME of their money back.
Also, if Affleck and Alba really aren't on board with the finished product, and what was said about the two of them is true, I'm betting they won't promote it on any level. When 2 of your on-screen draws don't like it, the mainstream most likely won't dig it either. No audience. No $$$. Distributors aren't generally in the market to lose money.
I'm completely against censorship on any level, including what a bunch of old ****s at the MPAA rate a flick. But I'm not sure if you'll see the same cut on DVD, adgy.
And that dang movie is nearly 2.5 hours! That seems long if it's as heavyhanded (no pun intended) as the word-of-mouth is suggesting. If it's 148 minutes of what the trailer shows, count me out.
EDIT: BTW, Marc Rocco was originally supposed to direct this before his surprise passing last May.

I understand what you're saying and you might be right.
