Default Great Sale At Best Buy if you are starting a DVD collection

Who's STARTING one I know, but I wish I was when deals like this pop up.

Some essentials are dirt cheap this week;

Casino, Godfather 1 and 2, Carlito's Way all only 4.99 (along with some other very own-able movies)... but these are must haves for any collection and rarely go on sale this cheap.

Making way for Blu-Ray... Again, nothing against DVD's, but collecting them now is akin to buying analog tape.

Hardly. With upconverting DVD players you can get a damn good picture even on your high-def TVs. Obviously Blu-ray is the way to go but if you still haven't made the jump into 1080p TVs, no reason to spend 6 times as much on movies yet!

I understand the price issue, but upconverting is nowhere near what Blu-ray can offer in picture quality, audio quality, and special features. Just make sure to get a TV that's 50" or more to get the full experience...when you can afford it.

Again, you're investing into a soon to be obsolete and inferior product. Why spend that money when you're most likely going to want it in HD down the road?

In all fairness to USCKingsFan31, the titles he mentions in post are Paramount and Uni titles, and until those studios announce them for BR, $4.99 is a great deal.

Then again, why the **** don't you have those movies already?

But who knows when Paramount is going to ever release the Godfather Trilogy in HD.

Yeah just pointing out the deal don't mean to start a player debate.

No way in hell does upconverting look nearly as good as Bluray...

But just like I would strongly advise someone buy a PS2 right now, I would do the same in suggesting an Upcoverting DVD player and DVDs. They won't go "obsolete" so much as they will just be a bit outdated... but if you aren't trying to be the coolest kid on the block with all of the coolest newest stuff, there is still plenty of value here.

Just my opinion.

I have Godfather on VHS and haven't watched it in a long time. Yet I hate Bestbuy. So I will wait till they are in Bluray or Amazon/Costco sells them for $5 each.

If you don't feel the same way about Circuit City, they have them for $6 this week (but will match them down to $5 if you bring a Best Buy weekly ad)

This is why I don't own "The Godfather" parts I or II, or many other DVDs . . . I rarely watch the few DVDs (or tapes (ancient as they are)) that I do own.

Soon, everything is gonna be instantly watchable from a service, so I'll hang in there until they are.

As much as I tell myself the same thing, I always break down and buy movies, I think it's an illness.

There are a fair number of movies I like where I don't think that picture quality, audio quality, or special features would make me want to spend more to own them.
