Like i said he's slumped before, it appears from the past few days he's starting to come out of it. Kopi will finish with 85+ points this season, you can quote me on that.
Two things stood in this girls way.
1: Stupid rules about attire at a track meet. Cmon people, really, If she's not wearing rocket shoes, make a little bit of wiggle room.
2:Stupid religious beliefs. Without religion this would never have been a problem.
This is neither about school uniforms or religion. This is about some other coach wanting their runner to be the best so they got this girl disqualified.

Now tell me how that's relevant, and what purpose it serves to make that statement.

As long as rules are there for everyone, they should be followed by everyone. That said, sounds like Len-det was right on in this case. However, I am completely tired of hearing about anyone's religious interests being trampled on in the course of public events, police procedural matters, or any other function of society that everyone has to deal with on the same playing field. Get over it. If you can't hack it go live in a box. That goes for all.
I agree with Len-Det and Royal PITA....sounds like a jealous coach.
I will be the first person to want someone DQ'd for rules violations but the fact she wore the same outfit for 3 years and nothing was done. This should be a non-issue.

PITA: It goes because it's a truth. This country is for the majority grounded on Christian beliefs. If this was a story about a girl being told to take off her cross necklace (which by the way, back in my day we werent allowed to wear jewelry during our races for safety...), it would probably have a very different feeling and have more of a widespread outrage than what this story is garnering. Attack a Muslim faith and rule of living and it's "conform or deal". Attack a Christian in this country and theres a moral uproar.
He wasnt attacking your beliefs, just pointing out the difference in attention.
iKings!: Basically, what youre saying is that because she chooses to conform to her Muslim faith that she should never be allowed to follow her passion of an extra curricular activity. If she wears what everyone else wears, she can run... but she's dissing her belief system. Like it or leave? It wasnt a statement being made like she was only gonna face mecca while she ran. That uniform is the most effective way for her to be able to participate while staying true to her religion. That unitard was perfectly fine the last three times she wore it to the event. The question is, why do they choose the final time she is there to call her out??

I agree. I've seen similar stories in the past. If she had been running at the back of the pack she would not have been disqualified.
rules are rules...if she would have bought a single color piece this wouldn't be an issue.
apparently she had been breaking the rules for 3 years. Of course a coach is going to wait until the right time to pull the uniform card on her. Who wouldn't? No different than waiting until the end of the game to check an illegal stick. The chick set herself up for this by wearing an illegally colored uniform and now people are trying to play a religion/race card? Give me a break.

so, youre gonna quite possibly deny a 17 year old her future because of the color of one sleeve?
Wow OP. Youre a douche.
she won't lose her future over this. Give me a break. If she wasn't clued in to having to buy a one color uniform then she can blame her track coach who should have protected her by educating her to the rules.
I just get sick of people who break a rule, intentionally or unwittingly, and then make a big deal about it after they are called on it.
heres the thing. i dont know her to know her financial situation, but from what I understand, that HS is not in the most affluent area. you may be a littlew jaded behind that OC curtain, but for some kids the only way to get to college is an athletic scholarship. this meet that she magically was booted from for uni violations was the prequal for the major race that colleges send their scouts to. not being able to try to get to THAT race could very well be the difference between Howard and DC community college.
