I guess congress already voted for this, and passed it with an astounding 404-6 ( http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1955 ). This whole thing reeks of fascism, but I guess we won't know
I guess congress already voted for this, and passed it with an astounding 404-6 (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1955). This whole thing reeks of fascism, but I guess we won't know for sure, until the Senate passes this, and I'm sure they will, and it's policies are implemented. I found this site: http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/...revention_act/ but it still doesn't really explain the language below (That last one is the one that gets me. It sounds like it could be implemented on any group. I put it in bold type), especially when you read the summary of the bill (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill...55&tab=summary) it sounds like a lame money wasting agency...

To establish the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism, and for other purposes.
SEC. 2. PREVENTION OF VIOLENT RADICALIZATION AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM.
(a) In General- Title VIII of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 361 et seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following:
`Subtitle J--Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism
`SEC. 899A. DEFINITIONS.
`In this subtitle:
`(1) COMMISSION- The term `Commission' means the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism established under section 899C.
`(2) VIOLENT RADICALIZATION- The term `violent radicalization' means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.
`(3) HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.
`(4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs.
This is fascism creep for sure. There isn't a single thing in this bill that is necessary, and nothing in it that isn't a threat to civil liberty, free expression and Constitutionalism. The "Excellence Center" (or whatever it's called) is a boondoggle and an insult to intellectual freedom and responsibility.
But finally...a "nonpartisan" vote! This shows the worth of that empty notion.

Exactly. I really can't see what this bill will do, other than strip more civil liberties, and no one knows, or cares...
`(4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's non-Christian beliefs

Oh, I am so excited to be living in a fascist state! Do we get cool uniforms, and phrases to say? I want to be forced to call everyone comrade, even though I know we'll be forced to call everyone brother. I wonder what church I'll be forced to attend? /sarcasm
