For all the LAPD bashing, they do a remarkable job of keeping a city of over 3.5 million safe on a consistent basis. They have some rogue cops, but to stereotype the whole department as being theives and criminals would be as grossly unfair as saying all Mexicans are illegal.

good point, they're racists, thugs, and generally-incompetent too. i wouldn't want anybody to think i wasn't giving the LAPD a fair shake.
Duh, homer...the police didn't act "preemptively," they acted in response to a tip. Has anyone here ever said the police should do nothing?
I think the police did a great job here. They identified the threat--14 year old homeschooled mama's boy with a BB gun arsenal and some homemade plastic "hand grenades" without fuses--and they took action. Action= arrest goth kid, spread BB guns on table, call press conference.

It's almost pathological how nearly every local news report I've seen on the "arsenal" has failed to include the fact that they are freaking BB guns. The only thing this kid could have massacred with this "weapons cache" is an ass-load of 2-liter plastic bottles filled with water.
Way to go Philly cops!
