I guess there weren't enough legitimate reasons to bash Palin....
Michael Eisenstadt is a fabrication that took credit for the leak, but Palin not knowing Africa was a continent (or thinking it was a country or something to that effect) is a real story. Palin's reaction is pretty much proof of this.

I love the Eisenstadt hoax story though.

The bottom line is that Christopher Hitchens was right about Palin.....whether Sweden is the capital of Norway or not.

Palin has a BS in Journalism, sure its not Geography but she clearly graduated and has a higher education then most....probably you. I'm not defending Palin and couldnt give two farts over her-but why the need to attack with crap like this? Why the need to paint those with opposing views as evil or incompetent as opposed to simply and rationally opposing their view points?

Honestly, we complain about the viciousness in politics when it happens to our guy but love it when it happens to "their" guy. Bush got better grades then Kerry and Al Gore-but hes an idiot and they're supposed to be smart. On Family Guy they had a joke about McCain being a NAZI. Where does this crap end?

I guess my point is-Don't you ever get tired of being played and used for the Status Quo? Maybe I am just ranting albeit. Oh well...here is a picture of Don Knotts.

I don't get your reply here. All I was doing was clarifying your article: The reported source of the Palin Africa boondoggle was a hoax, the substance of the story is still very real. Palin didn't know Africa was a continent.

Some points I want to make clear:

1. I'm smarter and better educated than Sarah Palin. I'd pit my quantum chemistry skills against hers any day of the week.

2. I'm one of the most progressive people on this board. If you take pragmatism (as in I don't think fantastical revolutions or viable third parties will magically happen) into account I'm probably in the top 3. How do you think I'm attempting to maintain the status-quo?

3. I don't think it's a stretch to want a smart Pres and VP, and anybody who's honest with themselves can see that Palin is dumb.

That may be.....but arent there enough legitimate items to back up this assertion? It was like Dan Rather bringing out the phony national guard documents against Bush-with a laundry list of legitimate things to honestly critique; why the need to result to cheap stunts?

Palin is Dumb This is like borderline 3rd grade material.

Palin not knowing Africa is a continent is a legitimate issue. This is nothing like the case where Rather was fooled by falsified documents, this story is apparently true. In my field, the more evidence, the better. What are you proposing? Don't report the story? Eliminate basic geography from the "commander-in-chief test?"

Anyway, this is not me attacking Palin, this isn't Democrats attacking Palin, it's Republicans attacking Palin. This was leaked by the McCain campaign to Fox News.

Not knowing Africa is a continent is actual 3rd grade material.

The distressing part about this whole story is how easily MSNBC, Fox News, the LA Times and others just bought this hoax and ran with it. I suspect it is because Palin is an easy target and it fits in with they want to beleive, but this is shabby.

Do not news organizations fact check anymore?

But this retort to OMR must be the equivalent of giving at least ONE fart about Palin shouldn't it?

Why is it that OMR can almost always push your buttons when almost no one else does?

You know OMR is better educated than Palin as well as more intelligent.

Do you think Palin could carry on a debate on this board about the molecular chemistry that led to the origin of life on Earth like OMR has? Palin doesn't even deal in coherent sentences.

Palin led the charge in the presidential campaign in terms of viciousness and irrationally painting her opponent as evil and incompetent. Obama is a "socialist," who wants to "surrender," who isn't part of the "real America," and he "pals around with terrorists." What equivalent statements about Palin did Obama personally make in his speeches?

You complain about people supporting representatives of the status quo and then defend Bush's and Palin's intelligence? Exactly who has defined the status quo more than Bush over the last eight years?

I think I'll judge Bush by his actions instead of imagining that his mediocre GPA at Yale meant something then or still does now. Maybe all those years of drunken excess took some of the edge off of his keen intellect anyway. As for Palin, it took about two weeks for reporters to reveal that most of her claims for herself were false.

She's a liar and a demagogue. Ordinary citizens like us should cut powerful Palin some slack in the interest of political civility when her own opinions and behavior have been demonstrably false and reprehensible over the last two months?
