"Lord — Protect my family and me," reads the note published in the Maariv daily. "Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."
I guess Obama should be turning Po-life any day now.
Good think Michelle wasn't on the trip
In all seriousness, that sucks that someone pulled that prayer out of the wall and published it. The article states that it is forbidden to do so. Not that he said anything wrong, but imagine a right wing presidential candidate stating he wanted to be an instrument of the Christian God?

This is insignificant, but nowhere in that quote did I see any reference to a particular religion. Though I believe in the separation of church and state. I do like to know that my leaders have a spiritual foundation, whether it be Buddhism, Judaism, christianity, or science of mind. I just don't want them to erode the seperation and I want them respect all peoples rights to make their own decisions and to follow their own paths.

Regardless of what he wrote, someone stole a paper that was not only private, but also from one of the most sacred spots in the world to many people. The person who did it should be ashamed, and the newspaper who published it to the world should be even more ashamed. While the idea od separation of church and state is a fundamental cornerstone fo our country, that is an issue that should only be raised if he violates it in position of power. Whether you like Obama or not, spiritual, religious, aetheist, or indifferent, these people disrespected a man, as well as a sacred tradition. On a brighter note, go kings go. Hopefullyl Obama is a Kings fan.

I just don't understand why it even matters the faith of the person in the oval office. There are some pretty easy to define contradictions between the bible (especially the Old Testament) and the Constitution. Which one is the most important relic to defend as President? The fact remains is that too many are putting their stock in the first, with the Consitution second. That's fine for someone from the church, but certainly not acceptable for our President.
Also, if we are truly are a representative government, why are there no athiests serving in Congress?

Thats not that weird, when I was baptized as a kid a part of the prayer we did was to ask god to make us instruments of his will, meaning we would try to be loving and turn the other cheek and so on, and I grew up in a very liberal church..its not a political thing at all. Also, he didn't state that as a presidential candidate, it wasn't a public statement he made, it was private and personal act and there for none of our business.

...
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
It's sad how many people just ignore the Constitution in this country.

I think it is a disgrace that somone took that note, but seeing the contents of said note only reinforces my admiration for his decency as a human being.

I think that there are plenty of Atheists in Congress. They are just afraid to admit it and not get re-elected.
