When taken out of context, chopped into sound bites, and repeated ad nauseam two months later (OH THE slightly delayed OUTRAGE!) because the McCain camp has nothing to run on besides smear?
No, not really.
You're right. It's not like people have been circulating information that he's a Muslim, or a terrorist, or related to Osama, or a Marxist, or that his wife is a militant Black Panther, or emphasizing that his middle name is Hussein, or circulating pictures of him in African tribal clothing...
I wonder where he would get that from.
...and what discerning voters are paying any attention to that crap.
OMR - I know you're having a hard time understanding this, but here is how Obama plays the race card: Obama gets legitimate criticism for a position he has taken or is forced to defend something. He can't do it and immediately falls into the "Hey, they're going to try and scare you about me. You know I'm too risky. I don't look like the guys on the dollar bills. Oh, and did I mention that he has a funny name and he is black."
This may be an effective tool for diverting the attention of folks like yourself, but you should really try to look at his underlying motives for bringing this up.

Link please. Show me one instance where he said this specifically referring to a legitimate issue.
Quite simply, you can't.

Underlying motives? Easy. Reassuring rural voters, who have been the audience these nonsense smear campaigns are aimed at, that he's not an evil terrorist Marxist Osama-relative hell-bent on destroying their way of life.
But hey, you ignored this once, so feel free to ignore it again.

He isn't responding to any issue when he does this, he is simply standing up there calling people that challenge him racists.
I would have a lot more respect for Obama if he went about his business like Jackie Robinson. We all know that there are some racists out there, whether they be white, black, brown, or yellow. Obama would be better served with the people that he needs to win over if he stayed above it all on race and didn't even mention it.
McCain has done nothing to make race an issue in this campaign, unlike Obama's fellow Democrat Bill Clinton.

Remind me how attacking Obama because of his minister is a "legitimate criticism" of a position he has taken. You were right there in the muck K17, don't try to clean yourself off now.

And you should really cite a source.
And it's been established that the McCain campaign strategy is to make Obama look "risky." That was the point of the stupid Paris and Britney ad that asked "Is he ready to lead?" It was the same strategy Clinton took in the primary when she said "If you choose Obama, be prepared for an October surprise." Of course, the "risky" strategy works better against a candidate who just happens to be a minority...

Well that was a quick backtrack. I'll take that to mean your previous comment:

Last I checked, Jackie Robinson wasn't running for election for Dodger second baseman. Your analogy is crap.
Obama's not the one making it an issue. He's responding to concerns at campaign stops and you're taking responses out of context to make it look like he's making it a public issue. He's not. Stop distorting.

McCain himself has not, and Obama's on record saying just that.
However, McCain backers are making it an issue in backdoor ways and this does have an electoral impact (see also: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, 2004) because the simple truth is most voters just don't follow politics from day-to-day for a myriad of reasons, and this is extremely relevant to a candidacy that has struggled with white rural voters since the primaries.
Look, I'm sorry the GOP brand is pathetic right now (link) and people are not buying what you're selling. It's painfully obvious McCain's only path to victory here is by smearing Obama in one way or another--like as noted earlier, whining now about the race card using out-of-context comments from two months ago or lying about Obama not visiting troops. So much for the Straight Talk Express.
