Default OBAMA 2008 Campaign Platform??

I know he is campaigning on 'change', but where does he stand on the major issues? In my mind he needs to do more than just being different than the current administration.

I have no idea who i'm voting for yet, but can any of you clue me in on his major campaign pledges? Issues that I feel are important:

Healthcare
Immigration
Environment
Foreign Policy
Economy/Taxes
Iraq
Domestic issues/Poverty in America

I'm sure they're many more, I just can't think of them right now.

He's on a roll right now, and if any of you 'Obamaites' can fill me in on what the hype is all about, I'd appreciate it.

Obama not going into specifics about his platform is a great strategy for him thats paying mega dividends. People want change and hope and hes going to ride that mantra for all its worth. Hillary is stuck because she cant really do the normal plan of attack ads and defamation because people trust Obama more then the Clintons; at this point hit pieces only make her look more desperate. The fact hes black also takes a lot of wind out of the sails as she doesnt want to appear threatening or insulting to the same demographic that has traditionally sided with her.

Hillary is ****ed.

You can't run as a 'change' candidate when you're litterally married to the past. Obama's also rocking the youth. It's ironic that Bubba Clinton too won in '92 largely in part by appealing to the youth, and being the 'cool guy'. Now Obama's got that crowd and Hillary events are filled mainly with groups of OLD ladies.

Face it, Hillary. You're the establishment candidate.. .and America wants Change. Whatever the **** that means.

American won't vote for a black candidate. I'm not saying that's good. I'm just saying it is what it is. I'm just going on gut feeling here and I honestly think...and have thought this for a good 20 years that the first black President will have to run on a platform of extreme conservatism. I also figured it wouldn't happen until was I was in my 50's at the earliest.

A liberal black man today? Sorry, I just don't see it. The Dems are unwittingly playing right into the Republicans hands as usual.

Like Alan Keyes? I totally disagree. An extreme conservative black man is doubly-****ed. Liberals won't vote for him, and conservatives won't either.

I would've thought a moderate like Colin Powell would be the first major candidate though.

Colin Powell would have pulled it off given the right timing. Unfortunately, dude wants nothing to do with politics so it's all for the best.

I disagree that conservatives wouldn't vote for a conservative black president. If the party gives him the nomination I believe he'd carry a majority of the Republican vote. Any that he loses he'd make up for in the black vote. It's always been my belief that black America would vote for any black presidential candidate just to get one in office.

However, I just don't see Obama winning an election in November. I truly believe that touting Obama and Hillary will be the Dems big 08 election eff up.

First, that's a pretty gigantic assumption. No chance that happens in the South.

And "a majority of the Republican vote" is like, what, ~20% of registered voters?

I think Edwards is easily the most appealing on the national scale, but it's not like the GOP has much better to offer: a pro-choice mayor whose calling card is saying "9/11" over and over, a guy who would be dominating the field if not for being the big M-word, a guy who's risen to prominence over challenging his own party, an Evangelical minister, and an actor.

For the first time in quite a while, the GOP is far more divided than the Dems.

No chance a black conservative wins any presidential until the Republican party drops its Southern Strategy which has won them all their presidential elections since Regan.

However, the Southern Strategy will eventually have to be dropped at least on a national level because Latino voters are abandoning the party.

And that is why I think the Dems are making a huge mistake in Obama/Hillary. They have the Republicans dead to right even more than they did in 04 and instead of playing it safe they are rolling the dice. This election is more winable than 04 and quite frankly I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

Anyone who wins the GOP nomination will split off a large percentage of the base. GWB had the neocons, the fiscal conservatives, and the Jesus freaks all behind him--nobody fits that description now.

The Bloomberg speculation is interesting. The chaos scenario is if a third candidate enters, wins a state here and there, and nobody gets an EC majority.

I might be moving to D.C. in August so this has potential for ridiculousness.

I agree........, but Kerry lost to arguably one of the least popular presidents in our countries' history in 2004, so anything can happen.

Obama will run on 'change' and the GOP will do what they normally do, scare the sh** out of people, talk about how we're not safe, cater to the religous right (Huckabee doesn't believe in evolution-LOL), etc.

I like Ron Paul more than any of the GOP canidates, but he has no shot in being the nominee.

I like Edwards a lot too, but he doesn't have the physical stature to become president, and unfortunately that plays a huge roll in American politics. Americans, for whatever reason, want a President who looks and acts strong. Edwards doesn't portray that type of guy IMO. I like his policies, but since we're a nation with A.D.D., and we don't listen, it's his tone and wimpy look that will turn off voters IMO.

It's the same reason why Kerry started going hunting and wind surfing in 2004, to look more manly and tough.

If what Orange Puck says is true, it sounds like Obama will need a strong VP running mate(a centrist/boderline Republican-Hagel?) to offset his liberal policies/skin color (not sure why this matters), if he's the nominee. I just heard today, that Obama was once a Republican? Is this true?

Do you think, just maybe, Obama's policies are just as appealing to the blacks as they are with the whites in Iowa and New Hampshire?

I hate to inform you, but your gut feeling is just residue from bigoted thinking.

Seems silly to me to apply this type of thinking to white community, but your gut/brain has NO PROBLEM applying it to the black community.

What does that really say about you?

Do you honestly believe the number of voters who vote based on RACE only will comprise a significant percentages of votes? I've got more respect for people, even the ones I disagree with, than to bucket them all as robots like that.

Difference is Kerry was running against a wartime president (the Iraq war only started in 2003) and it wasn't nearly as unpopular as it is today. If Bush was up vs. Kerry again, even Kerry couldn't lose that one.

The GOP is far less popular than they were in 2004. Just look at the '06 Congressional elections.

He's certainly never run as one, and he's been in politics since 1996. He was a law professor before that.

That's the first I've ever heard of that (and it seems laughable), but hell even Reagan was a Democrat originally. So what?
