I've heard all kinds of nutty koo-koo stories about their beliefs and how they differ from "traditional" Christians.
I think we all

I think we all know the story that South Park presented about Joseph Smith... but some of the things I have read/heard make that appear to be just the tip of the iceberg.
Are these folks just as loony as Scientologists?
Is any of it any more or less loony than Judaism, Christianity or Hinduism?
Well im a christian and I know that they have a different view on God. They believe he was a man who later became a God and that he has a father and that father also has a father. Rather than only one god the father creator of the universe. They also believe that they will be gods and have more than one wife after death. They also have different books and have changed and updated so many books throughout time. They have there own prophets, presidents and elders. My girlfriend was going to a Mormon church before I met her. When I met her she told me about it but had no clue on the beliefs of the LDS church. I decided to look into it and found out what they truly believe. People attend their church because they are really nice people and they put a lot of emphasis on family but most dont know the truth behind the church. She later asked about a lot of things I found out and they said they could not tell her because she could not understand yet. Only if you are an elder who goes to missions and then by that time they have you brainwashed so you go door to door. Its very sad becuase they are good people. But hey everybody has the right to believe what they want. I could go on and on but I hope I gave you some good info
I was stationed in Utah for two years. They may have to work harder to find booze, but some apparently follow the faith closer than others, as in all faiths I would guess.

This was very funny to observe when BYU came to the Rose Bowl in September. To tailgate or not to tailgate?

Yes that would have been, as the whole area lives and dies with BYU football. How can you watch football in those conditions without tailgating I will never know.
I used to needle the locals about Jim Mcmahon, BYU's greatest QB, being not only Catholic, but quite a malcontent as well, in their disciplined society.

Well, you'll have two more chances to observe, considering we play them in a week (in Vegas) and AGAIN next September (in Provo).
Well, imo all religions officially believe more or less equally unbeliavable stuff. But mormons are leading in this department (followed closely by scientologists). I mean their official story more or less obviously says, that Smith just made it up, but they still chose to believe it.
I know they are claiming to have many more believers than they really do. They are sort of Christians, but all Christian branches have a very negative opinion of them, some of the stuff they believe in, is just against Christian values, being it Catholic, protestant, orthodox... I also believe mormons feel closest to Jews or better said their values. However Jews more or less despise them, especially after mormons baptized 400 000 Jews who were murdered in concentration camps during WWII as mormons.

That's too easy an answer for me.
There is a clear distinction between the kind of "supernatural" mythology that "traditional" Judeo/Christian sects promote and the kind of "extraplanetary" mythology that the Latter Day Saints and Scientology allegedly preach.
Also... when Joe Smith showed up.... the world was a lot smaller than it was in the time of Jesus and Abraham (if those two actually existed).

Reason: I said "then" instead of "than" and I don't want to look like an ignorant ****tard
