The point here is that the McCain camp has indulged in the Big Lie so much that they're now in the habit of giving credit to their candidate for even goofy little things that can be easily disproven.

McCain's economic advisor panicked at a question and instead of saying, "Yeah, you got me, McCain didn't do much of anything at the Commerce Committee except help to dismantle the regulation of the financial system and so help give rise to the current crisis," he freaked out and claimed his guy is some kind of high tech visionary. Of course he's going to invite ridicule. And he deserves it.
