Very interesting site. If you ever wondered why the Govt grows and costs so much this will give you a good idea
Very interesting site. If you ever wondered why the Govt grows and costs so much this will give you a good idea of why and how much. Take a look how many employees are hired to run the covention center. The dept of Aging is another one. Gotta be great work if you can get it.

That also doesn't include DWP employees. The database provided is nothing compared to what they get, not even including the crazy amount of unnecessary overtime they get.
Can anyone who knows someone get me into the Dept of Aging? Think they have a position that pays on straight commission? It would be nice to finally get a gig that gives MLK, Cesar Chavez day, and Arbor day as paid legal holidays. Im interested in what the Aquarist Job is in the Mayors Dept.

Aquarist= a person who keeps or maintains an aquarium
More importantly the Aquarist got to keep his job. The City of LA is a model city and one on which all others should be judged.
Definitely an abuse of tax payer money. If they mayor wants a fish tank he should pay for it.
I don't bill my boss for the picture frames for the pictures of my family I have in my office
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this an invasion of privacy?
I just got a job with the Bureau of Sanitation as an Environmental Engineer. My name is not on the list because I start in June. I just don't think its any-one's business what I make except for my girlfriend and my boss.

Like Deuce Bigalow before he became a man-whore
An aquarist is a specialized marine biologist. A pretty competitive field. Seriously guys, he probably works at the goddamn zoo. He doesn't maintain personal fishtanks.
Personally, I want civil servants salaries to be competitive. I want the most competent plumbers, electricians, and technicians at the DWP, not the local guy from Roto-Rooter. In order to have a competent staff, you have to pay them. The city can't hire illegal immigrants like the private sector, and they must compensate the employee enough so that they can actually afford to live in the county (which is a good thing: less traffic, congestion, property and sales tax income, etc.). I've seen a lot of people bitch about teachers being incompetent on this board, and their solution was to fire them. Like that would solve the problem somehow, when the real solution is to pay starting teachers more because of the immense investment that the teacher had to make in education just to get to that level, when they could invest the same or less time and money and make more money in the private sector.
Personally, I'm not worried about LA. I see Downtown growing. All those condos near the Staples Center are going to bring in a huge influx of property and sales taxes. Most of those people are going to be using more cost effective mass transit over congested freeways. In short, I see population density increasing, and that brings down costs while increasing revenue.
