In northern Coral Springs, near the Sawgrass Expressway and Coral Ridge Drive, David Nirenberg arrived to vote as an independent. Nevertheless, he said poll workers insisted he choose a party ballot.
"He said to me, 'Are you Democrat or Republican?' I said, 'Neither, I am independent.' He said, 'Well, you have to pick one,''' Nirenberg said.
In Florida, only those who declare a party are allowed to cast a vote in that party's presidential primary. Nirenberg said he tried to explain to the poll worker that he should not vote on a party ballot because of his "no party affiliation" status.
Nirenberg said a second poll worker was called over who agreed that independents should not use party ballots, but said they had received instructions to the contrary.
"He said, 'Ya know, that is kind of funny, but it was what we were told.' … I was shocked when they told me that." Nirenberg said he went ahead and voted for John McCain.
The thing is that in Florida, from what I understand, it's illegal to vote in a party primary unless you switch to that party at least 29 days before the primary.
Sheneka McDonald spent 10 minutes trying to convince poll workers at the same precinct that she should have a Democratic ballot. She questioned poll workers when she was handed a Republican ballot but was told, "this is the only ballot we have."
"I said, 'How can this be the only ballot,'" McDonald recalled. "That's when the guy chimed in from the back and said the Democratic primary was in March."
Quote:
Sharon McDonald said she was given an independent ballot at the Astatula Community Center in Lake County, even though she told the poll workers she was a registered Democrat.
She said she was told that the Democratic primary votes didn't count, so she did not question the ballot. "Shame on me," said McDonald, a homemaker.

The DNC are being complete morons in regards to FL/MI.
3 of the most crucial swing states the dems have needed to WIN over the past 3 presidential elections have been Florida, Ohio, and Michican and they opt to give 2 of them the finger?
It would be surprisingly STUPID coming from anyone other than the democratic party. You can bet the Republicans will remind FL & MI of their democratic shun come the general election too.

Hillary is supposedly working furiously behind the scenes to try and change the rule after the fact. Which explains why she broke with the others and went on the ballot in MI and campaigned just a little in FL.
But, yeah, I was thinking the same thing as you about them screwing states out of their delegates. The party of enfranchisement... Plus, don't forget the Dems also have a massive amount of superdelegates ensuring the party elite can undo whatever wrong the stupid voters might come up with.
Look at these scorecards to see the way the superdelegates change everything for Democrats, but change very little for Republicans.
Obama leads in delegates derived from voting, but Hillary is CREAMING him when they poll the superdelegates. 79% of her estimated delegate total is superdelegates, vs. 6% for Romney.
Of course those are just polls of sd's, and who know s what they'lll actually do at the convention. But whatever the establishment thinks is best, the establishment will probably get on the D side of things.

Concur 100% about the "Superdelegates". What you said, is exactly what it is: A WAY TO INSURE THE DEMOCRATIC ESTABLISHMENT has FINAL SAY on who the nominee will be.
