The Iraqi government Monday ordered Blackwater USA, the security firm that protects U.S. diplomats, to stop work and leave the country after the fatal shooting of eight Iraqi civilians following a car bomb attack against a State Department convoy.
A severe blow to the occupation if Blackwater is truly expelled from Iraq. The equivalent of losing about a thousand troops as I understand it. And who will now be hired to protect reconstruction personnel and diplomats now? or will troops be put in that role?
It will be interesting to see if the current administration will actually respect the wishes of the Iraqi government when those wishes go against their own as well.

What is to stop a different protection company from coming in. I do not know, but I assume there is more than Blackwater working in Iraq.
There are numerous contractors and a lot of money to be made. A few of my co-workers retired and went to work in Iraq. The contracts ranged from 100,000 to 250,000 for your work tour just a few years ago. I highly recommend this movie : http://www.shadowcompanythemovie.com/ if you are interested in contract work in conflict areas.
This will be interesting. Will the US let them kick Blackwater out? If they don't, what does that say about Iraq being a "free and sovereign" country?
Not only should the US let them be kicked out but they should urge the other companies to back out to force the Iraqi government to step up their own work.

But then you run the risk of losing control, which is something the government doesn't want. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush's plan to reduce troop size had some provisions to increase private security presence and if those forces can now be kicked out of Iraq, I'd imagine that won't go over well with some in Washington.

yup..they have had plenty of time to get there collective feces coagulated, time to let them (the Iraqi govt) step to the foreground. Our troops need to be less involved at this point. If the Iraqi people want to put their society back together without killing each other first, this is as good a time to start as any.

Hey your a Republican and obviously has more clout than me in your party. Tell your party leaders this. They are the ones in charge of our military.

If you had been paying attention the last few years, you would have noted that my opinion of the republican leadership is just as low as it is of the democrats' leadership. Since when have any elected leaders actually listened to their electorate after an election?
I backed going into Iraq and I will stand behind that to this day. What has happened since then to turn this into a clust****** I don't agree with, and would not have been in favor of. Just another missed opportunity by our govt to make an impact.
Back on topic, if the Iraqi govt wants Blackwater out, and all other private contractors for that matter, I am fine with it. Let them do their own dirty work. We as a nation have already lost our opportunity to make the point that needed to be made here.
