Eight years after the Rampart police scandal erupted, several key Los Angeles city officials are fighting a proposed settlement for a final batch of lawsuits that could push the city's total bill for the corruption episode well beyond $100 million.Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office and the City Council's budget committee oppose a $16.85-million settlement that would resolve litigation by four current and former Los Angeles police officers who allege they were falsely arrested and maliciously prosecuted.
It's going to cost LA $70 more-million dollars because the police couldn't get rid of their own corruption. I wonder what the IAG budget has been during the past decade.

Its going to cost the city 70 Million because of the knee jerk reaction and witch hunt that tried to paint all of us gang officers as crooked. The City Council, the LAPD Management, the over zealous district attorneys, the so called Community leaders that dragged us over the coals for years, had search warrants done at our homes, embarrased our parents, our familes and our whole rank and file.....they were never held accountable. It's unfortunate that my 850,000 dollar home came out of the pockets of city tax payer money for my settlement. I wish it had came from the ****ers that tried to screw us. But hey, Its a damn nice house. Maybe the people of LA will be a little smarter next time when they jump on the bandwagon.

So does IAG get it's budget increased or decreased? Does the blue shield come down? I mean, what came first, the chicken(70 million dollars in settlements) or the egg(corrupt cops)?

PS - isn't winning the lawsuit and getting $850k holding the city, and their over-zealous lawyers and political machine, accountable? or are you expecting more? I'll gladly apologize for everyone who embarrassed you guys, I'll even get a nice card too, for the deed for your home.

Unfortunately it holds the citizens accountable, not the people that made the decisions.
My cousin went through that same witch hunt. Except he was only questioned...a LOT of times, no search warrants since they found he had no ties to the curruption that was there. He's in the Hollywood division now...

I probably know your cousin. Did a 2.5 year tour in HWD just a few years ago
Interestingly enough, the gov't officials who caused this mess won't be held personally financially liable for their errors, where as if it was you or I the civil liability would reach directly into our pockets.
