The Presidential race has been discussed a bunch recently so I wanted to turn to the other races in November. The GOP has 22 senate seats to defend in November while the Democrats have to defend 12. A number of these GOP seats are vulnerable as well. Larry Craig's in Idaho. John Warner's in Virginia. The DNC has more money to spend as well, so you can bet that Republicans will be forced to defend in all 50 states.
Furthermore, recent special elections for the House have tipped the Democrats way in incredibly conservative precincts. See Cazayoux winning in Louisiana's 6th which went for Bush in 2004 and hasn't been held by a Democrat for over 20 years, and Childers winning in Mississippi's 1st which went 62% for Bush in 2004.
To be honest, I'm not thrilled with the idea of a Democratically loaded Congress to go along with a Democratic president. Clearly the possibility is there, but I think the country has run best when there's a little more of a balance. Save for the last two years under a president who still think his election in 2004 gave him special magical powers.

Doubt you'll have to worry about that since the electoral college system is sufficiently stacked against the Dems to make Obama's election an unlikely thing.
A government split between the two parties will not be able to do anything decisive on important issues like climate and energy technology, health costs and the war. Neither party can be held accountable for doing something--or for doing nothing--in a divided government since a major goal of both parties has to be to set the other up for blame in the attempt to win majorities in the next election cycle. With an ineffective Senate majority for the Democrats the federal courts will continue to be packed with fanatical right wingers. Least important, (but really satisfying), the senate Democrats will be able to strip Joe Lieberman of all influence or kick him out of the party altogether and marginalize him in the Senate if they have a large enough majority.

Do you seriously think Obama is going to struggle that much in the system? I think its far from a slam dunk, but once McCain and Obama are on the same stage debating policy, I think McCain is going to be in a lot more trouble than you think.

Obama is going to have to win at least two of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida. That's a big challenge.

Gotta agree with you here dgrycan. There has to be a balance for the system to work, or we'll get the same thing that we got with the Republicans over the first six years. The only difference will be that the Dems will raise taxes and then spend like whores.

This is not such a bad thing.

as opposed to the fiscal conservatism displayed by the current set of Republicans?

Don't see where I said that, but maybe this will make you feel better. The only difference between the two is that the Dems will raise taxes and the Reps will lower them and then spend like whores.

Obama has mentioned a tax cut for anyone making under $100K a year

True, you didn't. It just came across as the typical "tax and spend" rhetoric, when we all know everyone spends like a drunken sailor (or me at Amoeba).
I wish any and all of these elected officials would grow some balls and find someway to balance a freaking budget.

Or just one and a combination of western/midwestern states that went Bush in '04 like Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Iowa. Also, even Virginia is in play this year.

It was the last straw for me with the Republican Party as a whole. They finally had their chance to put up and they failed miserably.

Realistically there hasn't been a Republican President that really acted "like a Republican" since Coolidge. One can argue Hoover, but he really didn't get much of a chance before the depression.
Both parties are just filled with whores who are only looking for the next campaign contribution from a lobbyist

The Dems should win in healthy numbers this year and then the Republicans can whine about how bad they are just like the Dems did the last 8 years...ahh, how I love the cyclical nature of politics.
