Corey Saunders, 26, spent four years in prison after being convicted in 2001 of raping a child. Upon his release, the Associated Press says prosecutors urged Bristol Superior Court Judge Richard Moses to order him committed indefinitely because of concerns that he posed a continuing threat to local children.
If I was a relative of this poor kid I would actually go and beat the snot out of the judge who ruled this guy be allowed to walk the streets.

please explain the rationale behind the death penalty for this offense.
Because he cannot be allowed to roam free in society would be my first guess.
Oh, maybe we should just pay for him to live his entire life in comfort somewhere? These sexual predators cannot be changed, this is not someone who robbed a house...he is attacking defenseless children...what would you do with him?

In comfort?
You're gonna be paying a lot more for all his legal appeals than you would be locking him up.

Well that is another problem with the system. If you get the death penalty you should get one year to appeal the case and have resources made available...none of this 23 years on death row crap.
If you can't in one year prove your innocence with full resources, then you die, not 15-23 years later when no one even remembers what it was you did.
Yes the year of resources is not cheap, but better than 23 years of housing these idiots and fighting 15 appeals in court, plus it becomes an actual reason to not commit a crime if you know you may die in a year, hell these guys don't fear the death penalty...it is not a threat when you know you won't face death for 20+ years.
so what would you choose for this scum of the earth?
i'd like to see longer sentences, possibly life for the worst offenders, for these predators. we already mark them down as level 1-3 offenders, so we can approximate how dangerous these people are.
as a cop, i am certain you are aware of the recidivism rates, and i believe these sexual offenders are even higher than regular criminals. unfortunately, i don't believe our justice system is setup to rehabilitate any prisoners, let alone these special needs cases.
my solution would revolve around a lengthier rehabilitation and hopefully redemption.

btw, i am not a supporter of megan's law.

Fair enough....in my perfect world I would prefer instant death for all scum like this but realistically I know that is not a possiblity. Life without parole is the next practical solution but again not very realistic. Life without parole is saved more serious crimes and unfortunately sexual predators who do not kill do not merit this punishment.
Longer sentencing would help to keep them off the streets but as far a rehabilitating them, IMHO you dont go to prison for rehabilitation. I guess while serving their time in prison, I could only hope that the yard justice would be able to adminster the proper punishment to this scum unlike our justice/prison system. Barbaric as that sounds I feel that is the only solution for this problem.
Surprising as it might seem, I'm not a big fan of Megan's law either. We (law enforcement) already know where most of these sex offenders are due to regsitration. But now that everyone else knows where they live that causes more headaches for us. While most people use the information found on the website wisely, there are the others that will cross the line and go cause problems for the registrants. Because I am bound to protect and serve everybody (sickos included) it makes my job that more difficult.
If they could guarantee that people would use the website wisely I would be all for it. But to say that will happen is like saying that these sickos will be reborn and cured in prison.......it aint gonna happen.....

You have to be kidding me.
Do you know how many innocent people we would have executed if this was in place?
