Personally, I hate conventions. All I can think of is all that money being spent on them. They don't really accomplish anything, as those speeches are written by someone else anyway. It's when these candidates get out and answer the hard questions people actually learn anything abt them.

Agree %100
I would be stunned to learn that a single vote was decided as a result of the conventions.
It's just further evidence to support my belief that the single greatest threat to "American Democracy" and (by proxy) freedom on the planet is the consolidation of power between the two major political parties in the United States and the inevitable corruption that goes along with it.
If Obama really stood for change he would run as an independent and bust up the DNC and if McCain were truly a "maverick" that stood by his own principles he would have selected Hillary Clinton as his running mate.
Sadly... neither of them truly represent even half of what they portray in their rhetoric.
Wake up America. Your vote DOES count. Third party voting is NOT a wasted vote.
Two parties is a convenience for the uninformed voter, but it's not optimal to create competition and diversity. I think if there was another party or even two in order to push everyone's buttons and ask the hard questions and press for real answers then things would be a bit more interesting and some true colors would show for all parties. The problem with more parties though is that how do they define themselves from the existing two? Democrats are pretty well defined as the liberal money spenders with big ideas, whether or not it's accurate, it's what they're associated with. The Republicans are painted as the conservative tax cut type, whether or not it's true. So then how does another party enter the fray without being painted as an extremist?
However I do agree with the message sent in the picture, but that's not to say that only one party should be held responsible for the undermining of basic rights.

lolz... i think that's the party MR. I was telling me about. not entirely certain though...
"The Peace and Freedom Party (PFP) is a ballot-listed minor political party in California. It is a left-wing feminist and socialist party. Although its first candidates appeared on the ballot in 1966, the national party was founded in 1967 as a leftist organization opposed to the Vietnam War. Since that time, the party has become consolidated in California. The party has endorsed Ralph Nader for President in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. [1]"
To be clear... I am not a member of the Peace & Freedom party. It's just the first obscure party name that popped into my head.

Well, I'll tell you Dr. I'd go for an independant party anytime. This BS bickering that goes on between both parties get so old and tiresome. Politicians are just what they are and will tell you anything you want to hear to get elected.
I just don't really like either of these candidates and it's just too bad that this is all either party could come up with.

That's bunk. At this point a third party vote IS a wasted vote. Republicans have been getting into office based on this shallow adage and I'm tired of it.
"Obama should run as an independent"- are you high? He would have no chance of winning, and then, of course, we could keep voting in Republicans. Absolute rubbish. No matter your political bent, it's pretty obvious the one candidate who DOES STAND FOR CHANGE is Barack Obama. I don't give a good god damn about the (D) next to his name. The Repubs went out of their way during their convention to keep Dubya's and Cheney's names out of it. Now why do you think that is? So they too could sound like they wanted change when, in fact, they simply want more of the same.
Fark the Republicans who want eight more years of this BS and fark the so called 'indies' who think they are about 'change', when really all they are doing is seeing to it Republicans stay in power.

So in other words you want me to cling desperately to the party you advocate because you want me to believe that the other party will do nothing but lead the country into ruin.
While I may actually agree with you regarding the current Republican administration... I would rather not have my political affiliation determined by abject fear. Rather by being inspired. While Obama is certainly more inspiring (to me) than McCain.... most Democrats inspire the same thing in me as most Republicans.
The ONLY wasted vote is the one that you don't use. If you have an opinion on a candidate or issue VOTE for it...just because it (or he or she) doesn't win does NOT mean it is wasted. That's just stupid.
There are too many dumbasses in this country who don't vote. If you want a sure-fire way of losing your rights and liberty that would be it....
