Congressman Kucinich warned about Bush dragging out the war for the rest of his term unless his funding was cut...
You can't cut the funding or the troops who are in theater are ****ed. You want to tell the troops how much you don't care about them, that's the route to take. Partisanship aside, that was a bad plan.

So you keep them embroiled in a fight they shouldn't be in because you do care about them?

That is the conventional wisdom, huh? I'll call it BS. How about cutting the funding except for bringing them back home.
America is so out of control. In other words, the Emperor Has No Clothes.

You start a conversation you can't even finish it. You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed. Say something once, why say it again?
-The Talking Heads (Psycho Killer)
Recently CNN and the Opinion Research Corp. asked 1017 people if they "believe the United States and its allies are winning the global war on terror." With a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, thirty percent replied yes, nearly half said they believe "neither side was winning" and the remaining nineteen percent believe "the terrorists" were in the lead.
I don't know the first thing about polls or statistics but I'm told that 1017 responses can be extrapolated to represent the "national mood" accurately enough to ignore the 1/249,985 ratio that I'm being asked to swallow. I know that if you ask a question with no answer it doesn't matter what the responses are.
The Global War On Terror doesn't exist.
The United Stats of America has no interest in stopping Global Terrorism and neither do our allies. The United States of America has a huge interest in protecting it's business investments overseas and making sure that the status quo is maintained. I'd love to believe that "Terrorism" has just become a more tasteful term for "Islamofascism" but the White House picks and chooses who to back and who to oppose with such disregard for the principles they claim to be defending that there remain few, if any, unifying characteristics with which to identify our "allies".
The fact that the United States has the budget and resources to dress in uniforms does little to diminish the terror their attacks must instill in the civilian populations they seek to "pacify." All while employing unthinkably powerful weapons. The destruction can only be described as... massive.
The fact that CNN would even stoop so low as to acknowledge the absurd phrase "The War On Terror" should be viewed as an insult by every American. The Fourth Column should exist to critique the government not kowtow to it's propaganda and rhetoric. That CNN is a business enterprise should not excuse them from choosing to simplify the issues they cover. If I hired a carpet cleaner and he simply threw some water on my rug and insisted that it were clean I would be incensed... why then do people not rage against the machine of disinformation?
"The War On Terror" is no more real than my "War On Snuffleupagus." All I need is a poll of 1,017 Americans to make it hit home.

Truth. And as far as the war on Snuffleupagus goes...I think he's got the world by the balls. Just 1,016 more to go Nay.
So you keep them embroiled in a fight they shouldn't be in because you do care about them?
No. But as Smedley ****ing Butler can tell you, bullets and bombs cost money. As does rations, armor, potable water for drinking, medical supplies to bandage wounds and heal as best as possible.

You're right, the Emperor is buck naked. I'll grant you that. Call it bull**** all you want, but the reality is, as you've so eloquently pointed out, war cost money. If the President isn't going to pull the troops out, to strand them there with no funding is as ****ed up as you can get. Deny that all you want, but it's the truth and you know it. It would be a worse fate than to continue funding and for them to stay, because if you haven't figured it out now, they're not leaving with President Bush in the oval office, and if they've got no funding, they've got no means with which to protect themselves. I don't know if you think the troops are just running rampant and aimlessly killing unarmed peaceful people but that's not the case. They're being attacked, fired on, mortars crashing into their chow hall as they're trying to eat a meal, snipers from inside and on top of buildings. Body armor isn't permanent, neither are rounds, or water. If you cut the funding all together, regardless if they remain there due to the outright stubborness of the President to bring them home, they'll blame those who cut it and that's a fact. So go ahead, make your claims, have another generation of Veterans who are unappreciated by their countrymen, who they've been dupped into believing they're defending. **** it right? Who gives a ****. As long as we don't spend another dime on the war, that's all that matters.
