These days I'm pretty much through wasting energy bashing the Bush admin, but this comment by Cheney bugged the hell out of me:
Here's the transcript:
CHENEY: On the security front, I think there's a general consensus that we've made major progress, that the surge has worked. That's been a major success.
RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it's not worth fighting.
CHENEY: So?
RADDATZ: So? You don't care what the American people think?
CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

So, you can't be blown off course by democracy? Thoughts?
Time after time and vote after vote your representatives in Congress have given the Bush administration the authority to conduct the war, or have provided the funding necessary for the troops to remain deployed in Iraq.
My point being that your representative democracy has been in action on the Iraq War from day one, and every step of the way. If you don't like the war in Iraq, it is time to vote out your representative and senators as well as replacing the executive branch.

the funny thing is......most people bad mouth the bush administration but fail to recognize nothing will change after the "elections" it will be the same thing, if not worse. Welcome to america, land of the contorlled and home of the enslaved.
While I don't agree with the approach, the message is correct. He certainly could have worded that better though. Truth is, you can't be swayed by opinion polls when it comes to making decisions about that sort of thing. The gov't has access to much more information than the general public. The only opinion poll that matters happens in Nov every four years.
I have to agree with him.
2/3 of Americans can give to ****s and don't even vote. While its clearly not the same 2/3 they need to get involved or shut the hell up.
of the 1/3 that do vote I would bet 2/3 of those make their choice based on a 20 seconmd commercial or some media story w/o doing much IF ANY research.

As "The Daily Show" aptly pointed out, Cheney has no problem spouting select IRAQI polls to justify the occupation, however.
People don't care because, except for very few, they aren't involved. There isn't any sacrifice by anyone except the families who have soldiers over there. Otherwise, to most, it's nothing more than another game of "Call of Duty 4".
BTW, DICK is a great guy...just great. Has always been high on my Christmas card list.

just as long as I can be the Air Force guy in the AC130 dropping 155 rounds into someone's kitchen.
...and when White House spokes model, Dana Perino was asked if Cheney believed that what the people think doesn't really matter, Perino explained that:
Quote:
You had input. The American people have input every four years, and that's the way our system is set.
Not surprisingly, Americans disagree with that notion:
Quote:
When Americans are asked whether they think that "elections are the only time when the views of the people should have influence, or that also between elections leaders should consider the views of the people as they make decisions," an extraordinary 94 percent say that government leaders should pay attention to the views of the public between elections.
I'm guessing the administrations response to that will so something along the lines of, as follows:

...and if 94% of people actually voted, they might take things a little more seriously. Knowing that usually 1/4 of the nation votes, and probably less than 50% of them actually pay attention, where's the fear of retribution?

is this a therom?
the answer is false i think.
1/4 would be 75%
(i do agree, however, doesn't make it right)
seriously tho.. Dick Cheney's one word quote pretty much sums up the last 8 years.
