Pakistan is a mess. That is scary.
More good news. The place is going to blow up completely which is what hardcore islamic fundementalists want to happen. This will inevitably force Musharraf's hand and probably lead to a violent crackdown by his military. Hopefully that will not happen as it will only snowball from there..
Even she saw this coming. When she returned to Pakistan, she knew they were after her but refused to let the extremists dictate the course of her life and where she was going to be. This was the third or fourth attempt that I remember hearing about, its too bad they actually got her.

This was at least the second attempt on her life that I know of since she came out of an eight-year exile. The first time was on October 18 when a bomb went off near her while she was in a parade that killed 140 people.
It will be interesting to see if the elections in Pakistan are postponed until a suitable opposition candidate can be found. That is if there are any opposition candidates that want to risk their lives by running.

Not to sound like a complete dick, but why DO/SHOULD we care? The US should have never gotten involved in nation building or aiding foreign countries to begin with. And as an aside, there is a BIG difference between "trading" with other nations and "aiding" them. Now everybody here is running scared here thinking it's going to be WWIII because our irresponsible government has their greasy little hands where they don't belong.
WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SPREADING "DEMOCRACY" AROUND THE FRICKIN' WORLD. Our tax dollars should go to help the people who PAY them, not to dictatorships around the world.

looks to me like it's another case of rich elites killing rich elites. Bhutto's family has been embedded in Pakistinian affairs since the country's inception. she was not the Jesus of democracy for that country like the media wants us to believe. its a tragedy she was killed, the media is doing a terrible job of handling this and keeps asking "what's the US's policy now? how does this change what the US does?" i got an idea. LET'S MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS! musharaff would probably be out of power if we hadn't propped him up all these years giving him BILLIONS of dollars to fight terrorism, which he just pocketed for himself. stop the subsidies, get out of their affairs, bring the troops home from all over the world, and vote for Ron Paul. ha. ok i'm done now.

We care because we are involved. Unfortunately. Pakistan has nuclear capability and if that falls into the wrong hands, it can be damaging. Imagine what a nuke war in the middle east and Pakistan will do to oil prices.

I agree that the US should mind it's own affairs.
Why does everyone get their panties in a bunch when a country has nuclear capabilities? Why would anyone try to nuke us when they assure themselves of destruction if they do? i'm not sure that would further their terrorist goals...don't buy into nuke propaganda. nukes have been "in the wrong hands" for over 50 years.

That makes sense if the country is the one that used the nuke on us. The fear is that with unrest in Pakistan, the nukes could fall into the hands of a terrorist org who would not be tied to a country in particular. Gosh, I miss 24.
