Martinez was stopped by Phoenix police Officer Nick Erfle on Tuesday for jaywalking on a busy central Phoenix street.
How come it's always something stupid like jaywalking or playing-music-too-loud?
Cops are probably better served finding criminals with warrants, especially violent ones, as opposed to the jaywalking/music-too-loud task force they seem to patrol.

One, he broke the law and was contacted for it....Two, he did have a FELONY warrant for aggravated assault. But I guess it was ok for the illegal alien to shoot and kill the cop because he was only being stopped for a traffic violation.

Anecdotally, we're always reading about cops being killed responding to a disturbing the peace, traffic incident, jay-walking, penny-ante crap that means little in the big picture of crimes. Once they catch/kill the bastard, we always find out he had a dozen warrants, is here illegally, escaped jail, history of violence, etc... etc...
It would be an entirely different story if this cop was killed during a warrant raid, but, anecdotally, it's always seems to be jaywalking.

Most of the best arrests come from little violations like that. Career criminals, even on the run always continue breaking the law...even little ones. My best arrests have come from little crap like that...and so have some of my biggest fights and chases.

Why would it be different?
It doesn't matter what the guy was stopped for, he murdered a police officer.

Actually, it does. If the scenario is that cops let their guards down when giving out jaywalking tickets, they should institute new training to keep their guard up. If the scenario is that there are way too many criminals and felons just roaming the streets, we need better task forces to take these guys down, as opposed to the *lucky* traffic incident leading to the fall of the gang leader.
Are all your lines of thoughts superficial, or are you just too lazy to spend time thinking?
While this is a tragedy, the fact is that police are most often killed by american citizens, whether by accident or on purpose. To paint immigrants as cop killers because of this means that one would have to paint americans(AKA white people) as the most heinous butchers of law enforcement officers.

Come on MD420....I was in NO WAY painting immigrants (as a whole) as cop killers...so please dont pull off that spin...This was a deported and obvious career criminal immigrant. See you at the Jena 6 March.

Yes, you absolutely were painting them as criminals. That was a very obvious underlying point in this thread... however, if the guy wasn't an illegal immigrant this thread probably never gets posted. If you had posted "Another Great Successful Black Man Story," it'd be just as obviously racist as this one.
Now as noted previously by others, the guy is a cop killer and needs to go to jail like every other criminal, regardless of immigrant status.

Some of us have a very narrow view about justice. Their view is buttressed by literalistic computation; as if everything is as simple as a he murdered a police officer & they broke the law.
People who swallow the sugar-coated justice in this manner don't have the stomach-aches associated with the lack of justice being wrought on the Jena 6 defendants.
Law & Order literalists are frankly too lazy to know any better, that's why they take this easy way out.

I'll mildly agree with you on the second half because context is important, but "murdered a police officer" (on top of falsifying identity and prior sexual assault) is pretty clear cut.
Regardless of your bad taste for police officers, there is no degree of rationalizing this.
