Good decision.
I'm crossing the aisle on this one. I agree with the decision. I have a problem with local government believing they have jurisdiction over a constitutional issue.
Personally, I think gun laws should be very strict in cities, and lax in the country. And I think we should have to take an exam to own one. Hell, we have to take a test to drive a car, make us put the weapon together/fire off a few rounds/ disassemble it before we're allowed to buy one.
While I do understand the defense issue, I don't find it compelling enough.
Even gun-rights supporters believe in gun control at some level. Who believes that a convicted criminal should have a gun.
But therein lies the problem. Could this ruling be interpreted to mean that local jurisdictions can not place a limit on who can buy a gun based on criminal record since the Constitution protects this right. It's not the same as Amber laws since there is no protection against being listed as a sex offender.
I fear that this will undo a lot of really good legislation that keeps people safe.

Other laws keep felons from buying guns and provide for an instant background check.

Scalia said nothing in Thursday's ruling should "cast doubt on long-standing prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons or the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings."
There will always be some sort of gun control and who can not own one.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., a leading gun control advocate in Congress, criticized the ruling. "I believe the people of this great country will be less safe because of it," she said.
Thanks Dianne, lets let the criminals buy all of the guns illegally and leave the law abiding citizens unprotected. Feinstein is a ****ing idiot.
