Well I got a photo pass to cover the LA Derby Dolls bout in the City of Industry. There is something about hot violent women on skates that drives me wild. Anyways, it was kind of crazy lighting because it was in a building with no side walls so the lighting changed as the sun went down. I managed to take a few decent snaps of this totally entertaining brawl between last year's high-flying champs, the Fight Crew, against the Sirens, who dress like cops.
The event kicked off with a "Baby Doll Brawl" of new skaters. The teams were the Pink Tacos and the Black somethings. The rookies weren't as skilled as the headliner teams but it was still a riot. Three bands played during the breaks, including Hellbound Hayride and Velouria (I forget the first opener). Scattered around the building were antique cars and there was a vendor village and bar that served some of the strongest Sauza margaritas I've ever tasted.
By the time the sun had dropped and the main event started, the stands were pretty full of fans engrossed in the battle; cheering and ooh'ing and ahh'ing with each scoring "Jam" or wipeout.
Maybe we'll get an LGK group together for the next one...?
