Default Oscar Moller The Hockey Player or The Next Food Network Star

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting Oscar Moller, a player with an infectious enthusiasm and a toothless hockey smile that is contagious. Over the course of last weekend and Saturday, those present had the pleasure of seeing his offensive flair, his developing chemistry with Wayne Simmonds and his incessant tapping stick for the puck whenever he gets open. He comes to play. He likes good food. Now, hear from him:

On who he would like to score his first NHL goal against:
That is a tough question. It could be against anyone. But it would be nice to get it in the first game I play. I wouldn't really care who.
On his favorite team growing up:
I grew up cheering for the Maple Leafs.
On what it was like for Team Sweden when they lost to Belarus in the 2002 Olympics and had the players’ faces put on the front page of the Swedish papers with the headline "Enemies of the State":

It was probably tough for them and tough for us hockey players. I think everyone was devastated that we lost to Belarus; because that's a team we should beat. That's so many years ago now. It seems like you just have to look forward.
When Oscar Moller was interviewed by Hockeys' Future, he discussed why he moved to North America because he has a North American style (rather than Swedish) that he described as kamikaze. I asked him to describe that style:
I'm a small guy. I have to be fearless out there and not be afraid of any one – not being afraid to take a hit or getting checked.
On his billet experience while he plays in Chilliwack:
It's almost like living in a dorm. I have had the same billet family the past three years. It's become like a home. I (also billet) with Matt Meroupilis. He actually went to the Rangers camp this year.
He has had a leadership role on a number of his teams to date. On how he described his leadership style:
I hate to lose, hate to lose really. I love to win. And that's the mentality that I have to win something, accomplish something, push, push the guys in the right direction. I think I'm starting to become more vocal because my English is becoming better. Mostly, it is on the ice with my play.
On his developing chemistry with Wayne Simmonds:
We seem to just know where each other is on the ice.
On his favorite North American non-hockey experiences:
Probably coming down to Los Angeles, to see the city. I've been to the beach a couple of times and been to a baseball game. I actually haven't been to Staples yet, but hopefully soon. There's still a lot of things to explore so I'm really excited to be in Los Angeles.
On his feverish tapping of his stick when he calls for the puck:
Yeah, well, I was open. I tapped my stick because I was wide open.
On the possibility of the other team taking him out while he calls for the puck:
Well, if they don't see me, I can play pretty far away and sneak up on the other team.
On the biggest adjustment from Sweden to North America:
The time difference. (Showing his sense of humor) No, but probably the language first.
On the difference between Stockholm and Chilliwack:
I think there's like 80,000 people in Chilliwack and probably about 2 million people in Stockholm. So it's a little different, but I kind of like it there.
On his career choice if he wasn’t a hockey player:
I would be a chef because I just love good food.
On what he would like fans to know about him:
I'm a nice guy. I'm sorry that is hard to think of in like two seconds.
In fairness to Oscar, he promised to let us fans know next time what he would like us to know about him! I can assure everyone that he has far more to offer Kings’ fans than the fact that he is 'just' a nice guy. The only time adjustment I see is when he will be NHL ready – not if.

That is so cool! I wish his spirit came more across from his words. His enthusiasm was pretty contagious in person. He definitely needs to get physically stronger I think before he is NHL ready.

Because most Americans do not have the opportunity to open their home up to young kids playing in a junior pro sports league.
