The Los Angeles Kings are set to officially open their 2006 NHL Training Camp with their first on-ice session scheduled for Thursday, September 14, at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. Approximately 65 players are scheduled to participate in this year’s Training Camp and fans are welcome to attend all on-ice practices.
The players will be divided into three teams at the start of Camp – Team Goring, Team Berry and Team Murphy, which are named after three prominent players (Butch Goring, Bob Berry and Mike Murphy) from the 1974-75 Kings team that recorded a franchise-high 105 points and 42 wins. The teams will compete for the Rogie Cup, which is named for Kings Hall of Fame goaltender and Royal Ambassador Rogie Vachon.
Recently acquired players Rob Blake, Dan Cloutier, Scott Thornton, Alyn McCauley and Brian Willsie highlight the list of new Kings taking part in the Camp. A total of 13 countries – Canada, the U.S., the Czech Republic, England, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden – will also be represented at this year’s Camp.
The Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo is located at 555 North Nash Street. Games and practices will be held on both the NHL and Olympic rinks.
Nice touch on the 4 player names...good to know the new regime is showing an openess to history...let's hope it continues.
I was worried they would try to forget history since they referred to the DT regime as "the old boy network". History means alot to us King fans, even if there is no Cup...and one can always learn from history!

Did I miss something? I didn't think Rogie had been elected to the HOF. Do we now have our own "Kings HOF"?
Correct...he was the part of the first group of 6 to go in the KINGS h.o.f back in '97 with Dionne, Taylor, Goring, Bob Miller, and Pete Demers as I recall
I don't get competing for a cup against each other when they are all already competing for spots on the roster. The success of each of the three "teams" is dependant upon the players assigned to them and it's hard to do that evenly. Reminds me of summer camp competion when I was a counselor. I wonder if they will give out stickers or gold stars when they do a drill correctly?!? You people who thought that the methods used by Andy Murray were too high school, this is grade school.
