So Wednesday night I'm watching the Kings sleep walk through their game so switch over to the Ducks playing Dallas. Its a 1-1 game and as usual the Ducks are taking the body and look to be keying in on the Stars skilled forwards with Nic Hagman taking a lot of abuse-mainly by Chris Kunitz. No not Parros(who the ducks didn't even bother to dress since Brad May and about 10 other Ducks can fight) but that bastion of physical play Chris Kunitz.
For good measure Sami Pahlson gets his nose dirty.
Switch back to the Kings-Brown blocks a shot and has a hard time keeping weight on his leg. The Yotes score, they show a replay of Brown taking the shot, and then another replay of the Yotes goal and then a replay of the Yotes celebrating-then goes back live to the Kings bench to show Brown just making it to the bench. My question? Why is no one helping him to the Bench? We do this in beer roller hocker leagues-why arent his teammates helping Brown in obvious pain?
Switch back to the Ducks-Ducks forwards swarming the Stars zone. Smith covers the puck players converge-Bertuzzi gets in Bouchers face and players do a little jostling.
Switch Back to the Kings-Visnovski gets ran at the end of the period. No one appears to care except for Blake. And while the Camera misses the entire play no players are assessed penalties but Jim Fox congratulates Blake on trying to show some spark. Once again they didn't show the play but I think its safe to assume Blake showed a lot more respect to the Yotes player then Pronger showed Handzus.
Fox-says being down so many goals that the Kings should start taking the body. I think to myself "Why dont they take the body all the time? and tell myself how happy I would be to see them take the body even some of the time."
Back to the Ducks-Ducks down 1 goal with minutes left throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the Stars goalie. Smith stands on his head as the ducks are relentless pasting shots from all angles. Too little too late though as the Clock runs out-Ducks lose. I am jealous by the Ducks last minute efforts.
Back to the Kings-5 minutes left in the game. Kings cant clear the zone, Cant connect a pass, Modry looks at his watch while chasing the puck behind his own net. Camera pans to the Bench and shows player on Cell Phone ordering a pizza while Crawford looks constipated.
Final minutes tick down as the team leaves the ice showing the same minimal interest in competing that they showed since about the 10 minute mark of the 1st. I am left disgusted.
Then it dawns on me-Ive been watching the Kings for 20 years. 20 freaking years. I live much closer to the pond than Staples. I like their 7pm start time. The area by the pond is 10times safer. They check, they stand up for each other, they fight, they never give up which is pretty much all Ive ever asked for from the Kings. Then I ask myself-Why am I attached this gang of misfits when they pretty much stand for everything that I'm against?

With a whopping 25 minutes in Penalties Handzus leads the team in PIMS. If Andy Mcdonald were on the Kings-he would be the PIM leader with 26 PIMS. On the Ducks-Mcdonalds PIMS are only good enough for 7th on the team. Sickening.

I've been asking myself that question a lot lately. I don't have a friggin answer. The Kings keep kicking me in the groin and I keep coming back for more. I can't help it, I stay a Kings fan and the thought of being a Ducks fan makes me want to puke. Remaining a Kings fan has become further proof of my mental illness.
Honestly Hip, I can't blame you for feeling that way. The Kings have been playing brutal hockey for over 15 years and there are no real signs of change anytime soon. The whole dumping the puck and "getting behind the defenseman" is not good hockey, and if anybody wants to argue against that I'd really like to hear it. BTW, **** THE DUCKS!!!

One of the best times I ever had a game ironically enough was the time you and I were at the Ducks-Stars playoff game.
And totally agreed about the mental illness-why am I forever joined at the hip with the Kings? This is like knowing your old lady is banging every guy in town yet still buying her diamonds for christmas.

Hip you make an excellent argument for jumping ship. My son-in-law is a Ducks fan and every time we go to the games it become clear I may be a season ticket holder for the wrong club.
We have no Grit, we play with no Heart and this is group of Athletes is not a team by any stretch of the imagination.
With that said GO! Kings GO!

Hip, the Kings don't have any loyalty to you so if you start rooting for the Dicks (sp, I'll leave it any way) go for it w/ no remorse. IMO you can be a fan of both teams, there is NO rivalry.
I always thought when the Ducks joined the league I would become a fan, it just never happened for me, although I can see the appeal of this current team.
I watched the Rangers for years - yes, all of those years where the Islanders were winning the cup and the Rangers had Nick Fotiu and that was about it.
I never ONCE thought about becoming an Isles fan and I will never ONCE think about becoming a Ducks fan
Shame on you for even entertaining the thought.
The Ducks have been playing good hockey - give them that - but don't ever think about switching - no matter how bad it gets.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

i feel your pain, i finally get center ice in my area (okanagan BC canada) and so i finally get to see almost all the kings games....
the young guys, i dont have many complaints against... its all the older guys who think the staples center is a retirement home for washed up hockey players. i'm so sick of watching Handzus on the ice i'd like to puke. visnovski is frustrated, the guy is gold but for some reason he cant get the shots on net like he used too.. i say put him with Johnson and blake with stuart, but thats just me.
dont go for the ducks, or the sharks... how could anybody cheer for a team called "the ducks" QUACK! lame. the kings have history on their side, its just that crawford sucks. thats all.
So I was given free tickets to see the ducks and coyotes today, and i have to admit i had a pretty good time.
*$12 parking right across from the Ponda
*Free T-Shirt when i walked in the door.
*Bomb hot dogs. Thick and meaty not long and skinny.
*Classy video tribute to Bryzgalov and lengthy standing ovation. Very nice to see the fans and organization show him some gratitude even though he was playing for the opponent.
* Ducks girls were actually really nice, and helped get some little kids sitting around me on the scoreboard tv.
*Extremely friendly concessions staff. Big difference from those who work at staples.
*Can't complain about chances to win food from the Yardhouse and a Honda Ridgeline
To be honest, it was a more family friendly environment.
Not saying I'm a ducks convert. But i had a good time watching some hockey. Nice set up over at the Honda center.
Wow. I think only in SoCal will you ever be reading ***** like this. The sports world all knows that SoCal fans show up late and leave early, that SoCal fans only pay attention to teams that win. But I always prided myself in being a Kings fan because those things didn't apply to us. We are loyal, knowledgeable, and we didn't really fear Inglewood or Downtown LA. But I just suppose that isn't the case anymore.
