The Los Angeles Kings have traded center Craig Conroy to the Calgary Flames in exchange for center Jamie Lundmark plus a fourth-round draft choice 2007 and a second-rounder in 2006, Dean Lombardi announced today. Lundmark, 26, has four points (all assists) and 31 penalty minutes in 39 games this season.
Well........in the last game against the Oilers I yelled out "Trade Conroy" after watching his 9 million'th 'turn over' since the start of this year......guess they heard me.
Conroy is a good guy who has had a tough year. Hopefully he will find his game back in Calgary (after they play the kings).
I wish all the best to him and his family.
Oh yeah, Miller will be next
It doesn't seem like we got much for Conroy. Lundmark was not playing for Calgary and has a whopping 20 goals in 203 NHL games. Even Brian Willsie has scored more than once every ten games! Lundmark has played in enough games to show what he can do in the NHL, and it does not appear that he has much upside. Our fourth line is pretty crowded right now.
4th round pick in 2007. Hmm. In his seven years as Sharks GM (I think he was responsible for the drafts from 1996 to 2002 as he was fired at the end of the 2003 season), he drafted the following players in round 4:
Matt Bradley (307 NHL games, right wing, 29 goals)
Adam Spylo (No NHL Games)
Rob Davison (154 NHL Games, 2 goals, though he is a defenseman)
Niko Dimitrakos (158 games, 20 goals as a forward)
Nolan Shaefer (goalie, 7 NHL games)
Tomas Pihlal (2 NHL games)
Kris Newberry (2 NHL Games)
Never heard of most of them? I haven't either. I think we will have to be lucky to get anyone in the fourth round who is any more useful than Brian Willsie, Scott Thornton or Kevin Dallman and that will be at least three years from now.
We may have better luck with the 2008 2nd rounder, but whoever that is won't likely be ready for prime time for several years. To be "fair and balanced," DL's record while in SJ on 2nd rounders is better, with 4 out 7 being legitimate NHL players : Marco Sturm, Scott Hannan, Jonathan Cheechoo, Mark Concannon (oops), John DiSalvatore (oops, again), Christian Erhoff, Dan Spang (oops).
I think we would be much better off trying to get players who were drafted in 2004 or 2005 by a good team that has no room on their roster for them. By now, you can tell if they are legitimate NHL prospects. Draft choices below the 2nd round have a low probability of success.
Can someone please give me some good news to this season other than take a look at our young talent prospects we have. I just can't fathom to see Anahiem or San Jose winning a Cup first when we've been waiting for a longtime?
