About This Page: This is a discussion on Food and Beer Reviews within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. I rather have a nice cheddar instead of the curds.

ya, it sounds funny, but i actually prefer chili cheese fries at certain places over the richness of gravy and cheese on my fries. the gravy just has a really thick texture that i can't get around, especially when coupled with the fries.
i'm also picky about the cheese. the only thing i'll eat at staples is their chili cheese fries and sometimes they put nacho cheese on it (yuck) and other times they'll do the shredded chedder (better!). chili cheese fries are probably just as fattening though, so i'll only have it once a month. *sigh*
i could get really picky and just go for a nice cheddar, but it *is* junk food...

The problem when not using the curds is that "regular" cheese (cheddar, mozza, etc.) melts/disintegrates into a gooey mess when it's in with the gravy and fries. Sounds really weird, but it's noticeable after making your own at home and having the real thing (in Montreal or wherever).

I like chili cheese fries as long as the chili is good. I'm a bit picky when it comes to chili and i'm definitely a cheese snob so no nacho, velveeta, kraft singles, squeeze cheese or "american" cheese goes on my food.
Gravy fries from the Hat are pretty tasteless, i'm not impressed with their gravy at all.
I don't even get chili-cheese fries as often as you do.

That's what I like heh.
I'm not knocking poutine, fries=good, gravy=good, cheese=good and I'd like to try it out someday. Since they need to be fresh curds to get the best taste, I wouldn't mind trying to make a poutine derivative with fresh mozzerella, though the sharp cheddar taste would be missing.
When some friends and I went to Chicago several years ago, we took a side trip to Milwaukee. We all bought a bunch of cheese to bring home, and we were nervous as hell with these blocks in our bags in case the screeners thought they were C4 at first or something. And that was long before 9/11.

i only get them during the regular season. i don't know anywhere else here that does it in a tolerable manner. and yes, the chili needs to be good.
...glad i wasn't the only one who wasn't into the Hat's gravy fries.
anyway, i work out 7 days a week, so i allow myself indulgences every now and then.

heh heh, that made me think of the time i brought a wheel of camembert home from france. i was totally afraid they'd smell it or it'd go bad on the flight home.
just as long as you don't put a clock next to it in your bags...
I could not say, I have not had it. I read this over on the Kings board at HF's as a Habs fan is coming down in Oct and wanted someplace to watch some games, a retired Habs player hangs out at this place and it was suggested and it came up that they serve poutine.
Maybe someone that lives in the Southbay can chime in if they've eaten there.
Puckplayer and I had poutine from Redondo Beach before (during a Kings watch party). Great stuff!
