I'd hazard to guess the Chinatown in SF would be the most "authentic" and well respected of all the chinatowns in the US. I'd also hazard the guess that the NY chinese cuisine was the first to be Americanized for taste.
Interesting subject, I don't know what the main cuisine of NY's chinese is.
I personally like sichuan and hongkong style but I think cantonese is the most widespread.
i was about to enter a chinese food place one day here in Cali and it had a "C" rating on the door. Stepped inside didnt see what i like and walked out. havent ate chinese since.
You haven't lived until you've eaten a Cuban Sandwich in Jamaica Plain, just outside of Boston.
And the food is good too.
I have family in Jamaica Plain and I've actually had a Cuban sandwich there. The sandwich was delicious, but I don't know where my Aunt bought them from.

You gave up on Chinese food because ONE restaurant looked sketchy? What a shame.

I walked into a steak house that had a C rating as well. I walked out and haven't eaten beef in years.

Yeah, I was born in Framingham and still have family in Sharon, Medford and Somerville.
The place I like the best for Cuban Sandwiches is The El Oriental De Cuba Restaurant...legendary.
For Cuban cuisine I recommend Havana Mania in Manhattan Beach. The owner is Cuban and his relatives work there so it's authentic. I'm not an expert, but I do enjoy eating there on occassion. It's located at the corner of Manhattan Beach Blvd. and Inglewood.
