To my surprise, I found and picked up a 24 pack at Smart & Final on Saturday to BBQ. Damn if those weren't the best hot dogs I've ever had!! They are longer yet thinner than the average dog (insert sexual joke here), but something about the spices they use kicks butt. I don't think I can go back to Ball Park, Hebrew National, Hoffy, Farmer John, etc., ever again.
BTW, I also got a 24 pack of buns at S&F. That never happens...

Pinks is ok, they have some nutty combo's but like everything else, a Noo Yawker will **** on it as not being a "real" dog.
Nathan's is an institution, Pinks I never heard of until moving to LA.
I myself am a very bland person but after eating a Nathan's hotdog, there is no doubt that they are the best. Nathan's are good just all by themselves. Pink's, I dont know what brand they use, but they good because of the toppings they use. Although I could do without the 20+ min. wait for my hotdog.
As a person who has eaten both...Pinks has a great combination with toppings and the nice snap from the natural casing (which are made especially for Pinks).
Nathans though was unbelievable. No topping on it, it was damn good, then I had one with their New York Red Onions and Sauerkraut and good god it was kick ass
I had a fortune (or misfortune) of living in Austria for a few months before moving to Brooklyn in the early 90s, and I gotta say that even Nathan's pales in comparison to the hot dogs there.

The real ones should have a natural casing, the ones at the store that i've seen don't so they don't have that good snap.
EDIT-I see that Nathan's does sell the Natural Casing version but the only ones i've seen in the stores that I go to are the All-Beef w/o casing.
The only Nathans hot dogs I get are the natural casing ones. They are longer and skinnier than the other ones, and you're right, they are hard to find.
The only grocery store in my area that has them is Albertsons. More specific, it is the Albertsons off of Placentia Ave near Cal State Fullerton.
