Well while living in SoCal I never took my fellow lgk'er's advice (thanks KJ/Obie, Foof, luvzig, etal.) to go to Maggiano's. Well, let's just say I missed out all this time!
The wife and I went yesterday to celebrate our anniversary and we were pretty pleased with our choice. We went to the one here in Bellevue, WA. I had the Baked Ziti and Italian sausage and it was darn tasty. My wife had her italian standby eggplant parm.
Being very Italian this place reminded me very much of places I went with my grandfather and mother back in the day and back east. Very old style with a new menu. Very pleased with the whole experience and recommend it to anyone. I think there is one in Irvine as well as in LA somewhere.
Buon Gusto!

Wouldn't disagree with Buca as a great choice. I just liked how Maggiano's atmosphere and menu was like an "old" Italian style east-coast restaurant. Very much like you would find in NYC, Boston or Philly, or even Baltimore, where I have eaten many times. You don't get that much on the west coast and it was nice to see/experience.
Buca's chicken parm or saltimbucca with a side of spaghetti and meatballs and sauteed green beans is just like momma made!
ummmmm KINGSQUEEN...please pick up the white courtest phone...
Their Crispy Zucchini Fritte pwns!
I wouldn't say it's my favorite Italian restaurant (although it is quite good), but due to it's location right next door to my work, it makes for a convenient place to enjoy a nice relaxing lunch on the patio...and the fact that at least a couple times a week, the smell of garlic bread wafts into my office, doesn't help much either.
I went to Maggiano's for the first time last week and I was pretty underwhelmed. The food wasn't bad and I liked the atmosphere, but I thought it was pretty overpriced for what it was.

I've been to the one in South Coast once. I got meat lasagna. It was more than enough food but cheese was sorely lacking.
