...I am always looking for new ways to increase my daily intake of Kool-aid. So, in honor of those optimistic souls among us and recognizing those among us who don't believe yet; I believe I have found a suitable compromise....Kool-Aid Pickles.
Has anyone tried these? I hear they are fairly popular in the Delta region of Mississippi.
Anyway, here's the recipe. I made a jar of these but now I have to wait awhile for them to be ready for eating.
Kool-aid Pickles
Prep time: 10 minutes
Time to table: 1 week
Two packets Kool-Aid
the 'recipe' calls for a pound of sugar, about 2 1/3 cups (other versions just used 1 cup of sugar
2 quarts water
Up to 4 16-ounce jars dill pickles, halved or quartered (You can score them and poke holes in them with a fork if you don't want to halve and quarter them), depending on size
Mix Kool-Aid, sugar and water in a large glass container until well mixed. Add pickles and refrigerate for about a week before eating, stirring every day.
OK...I finally tried them and I can't say that I am overly impressed. They taste like a pickle that you are chasing with a glass of koolaid. They don't really suck; but they ain't that good either. I guess some things really shouldn't be mixed together.

Reason: added my opinion of the completed experiment.

This reminds me of when I was a kid. There was a roller skating rink that made pickle flavored slushies. I don't know why, but every time I went there all the kids were going nuts over them. It was basically pickle juice and crushed ice.
I figured it out one day that the owner wanted to use the pickle juice some how and came up with this horrible concoction. I had one once and almost wretched. I was exiled for my lack of appreciation for the slushie.
