I had the shrimp/fish combo. VERY impressed with the shrimp ! Lightly battered and flavorful - up there with the best shrimp that I've ever had. I was a pube dissapointed with the fish though. Very thin and the batter was somewhat odd. Didn't do much for me.
My brother had the crabs (insert joke here) and he shared them with his girlfriend (insert joke 2 here). His girlfriend had the all you can eat popcorn shrimp and ordered 3 of them to share with everybody. Very good for what it was and a great way to cheat the system.
I would go back in a heartbeat, and reasonable prices for quality seafood.

Must be because it's a new location. I've never had a good, quality experience at a JCS. Plus it's so gimmicky... which I can overlook if the food is really good, but when I've gone, it hasn't been.
Joes Crab Shack is always hit or miss....some locations are great others are crap.
Case in Point-the location is San Diego is amazingly good;the service and the food everytime I have been there has been awesome.
They finally open a location in Long Beach I get all excited to visit and find it sucks.
I agree with the hit and miss sentiment, but it's funny that on my only two visits, I found the visit to the Newport location enjoyable, while the visit to the San Diego (Pacific Beach) location not so much.

I have eaten at Joe's in several locations across the country. The first two times were horrid (Columbus, OH and San Francisco, CA). Then I ate at a good one (after being dragged to it by the rest of my crew even though I didn't want to eat there...that one was in Fort Myers, FL). Then I ate at the one here in Redondo and it was absolutely god-awful horrid.
Never again.

I've been to the San Diego location a couple of times, its alright, never great, just average. I prefer Kings fish house over Joes any day of the week (at least as far as chains go).

The SD location in Hazard Valley is the one I always go to....never had a bad experience. As a matter of fact one time I ordered a crab plate 1/2 lemon garlic and 1/2 bbq-the plate came out all lemon garlic(which was very tasty) so I ate almost the whole plate. When I told the waiter he went to kitchen and got me another order of the BBQ crab and insisted I had to try it. It was awesome as well-cant complain when a server insists you get free crab.
But the Long Beach location was horrible.
Im up in the air as to what will be my next restuarant experince...
Either Clearmans, the CrapPot, or this mexican Cantina off Trabuco Canyon road.

Wow, with the thousands of great restaurants in SF, why would you ever eat at a crappy chain?
