Im trying to find a good bento box place in the l.a. area and i need some recommendations. I used to go to niban and ichiro in the san diego area, but im looking for something comparable.
I tried Hurry Curry of Tokyo in Westwood and it was very good curry, but there were lots of students and i had to park about 3 blocks away.
I call upon those LGK faithful to steer me in the right direction.
P.S. I havent tried walking around Little Tokyo and doing smell tests at all the places yet.
If your in Torrance try the Mitsuwa Marketplace. They've got a food court thats mostly Japanese and while I haven't been there in years they were known for having very good food and in particular okonamoyaki. Its actually a pretty cool place for anyone whose never visited-very very similar to the style of malls they have in Japan. Quirky little stores and a full blown japanese supermarket that sometimes has great prices on japanese beer(though its made in Canada).
As for Curry- the Curry House is pretty good. They have a few of them scattered around OC and I know there is one in Torrance as well. Fun Story-Years ago I was dating a girl and we went there for lunch-I was a big pot smoker at that time and had a pretty good case of the munchies. The food was wonderful obviously but the best things were the assorted multi colored ginger/onion they bring in the little side container. I ended up eating every piece of ginger/onion in the container.

Good call on both Mitsuwa and the Curry House, Hipcheck.
Both of those places are also located in Littly Tokyo. Mitsuwa is located in a little mall on the southwest corner of Almeda and Third Street. This location has a small take out restaurant which sells a nice variety of udons and ramens. This location also has a nice and popular sushi area. Prepared and boxed as you'll see in some restaurants, but prepared fresh every day and quite a deal if you're looking for a quick sushi lunch. I believe they have bento boxes as well.
Love the Curry House. The restaurant is located next to the New Otani hotel on the southeast corner of Los Angeles St and First St, on the second level of that small shopping complex. The restaurant became so popular and busy that they opened a second location right underneath the original called Curry House To Go. The spicy katsu is just some good, good stuff.
Mmm.. haven't been to Curry House in a couple weeks. I know where I'm walking for lunch. Thanks!!
Thanks for the help guys. I guess im going to have to go to little tokyo to find some good stuff. Im definitely gonna have to try mitsuwa.
I had heard of house of curry before, but had a friend tell me that hurry curry of tokyo is tastier. They are located in west l.a. on sawtelle just north of olympic and there is one in pasadena also.

Concur with your friend.
If you want to compare for yourself, there is a Curry House (note that it is NOT House of Curry, since it is named after the House Corp. that sells the curry products) across the street from Hurry Curry on Sawtelle.
A few of the slightly higher end places on Sawtelle have excellent curry, too, but don't specialize in it and offer plenty of other stuff. One notable one is Sawtelle Kitchen and their deep fried meatloaf with curry sauce.
As for bento boxes on Sawtelle, in the same complex with Curry House, the Nijiya Market usually has some pretty good bento options.
