It's possible. The only thing about that place is the alcohol flows pretty heavy no matter where you are. Of course, it flows especially heavy when I am there... but that's another story altogether.

I don't know what too exotic for the kids is but the restaurants in the Kyoto Grand Hotel in Little Tokyo has a couple of nice restaurants I've been to. Just to suggest something different from what has been mentioned.
Garden Grill-teppanyaki, moderate priced but if you get wagyu or kobe it can become pricey.
Thousand Cranes-Premium japanese they have regular seating too if you look at the pics. Los Angeles Hotels, Downtown Los Angeles Hotel - Kyoto Grand Hotel
They have a nice japanese rooftop garden to check out too.
